Guest phillipw April 21, 2003 April 21, 2003 Well after a lot of research and stress I finally ordered my new tank and stand. To get everything I wanted at a semi-reasonable price I went with Inter-American. The tank will be a 60x24x24 (150G) with starphire glass front, Artic blue mirrored back, euro-braced with all exposed edges polished, black silicone, glass bottom mounted on styofoam and plywood. It will have a center overflow with 2” ID drain rated for 2400 GPH and 2 - 1” bulkhead returns. The overflow also has to holes near the top to get the returns into the tank. It includes all the bulkheads and return assemblies installed and a 2” Durso standpipe. It will be ready for water when delivered. The stand is 2” square tube and will be 36”high. I will build a shell around it and new canopy. The cost of the tank and stand delivered is $1320, which is a little more than I planned to spend, but bigger than originally planned and with much better features than off the shelf tanks. Build time quoted as 10 days and a week or two for delivery. Wish me luck…
Larry Grenier April 21, 2003 April 21, 2003 You'll need more than luck :D Just kidding; sound like you're in for alot of fun.
ROBZ April 21, 2003 April 21, 2003 congrats Phillipw!!! do they have a website? Inter-American never heard of that Company? just curiouse? good luck with the new tank
Guest phillipw April 21, 2003 April 21, 2003 I had not heard of them either. I did run across their web page at http://go.to/interamerican/ This site did not impress me much but then again none of the manufacturers have sites that are very good. I later did a search on reef central on inter-american and the reviews were all positive other than some delivery delays. Mitch assured me they have addressed that problem as they are now in a new factory. Even if there is a few weeks delay I can live with it for a price like this on a custom made tank.
ROBZ April 21, 2003 April 21, 2003 thanks for the info, please let me knoewhow everything work out! and if possible post a pic :: ~Rob
Larry Grenier April 22, 2003 April 22, 2003 Phil, Mostly curious... how much are they charging for shipping and are they in Canada?
Guest phillipw April 22, 2003 April 22, 2003 Hi, Yes they are in Canada, and even worse I think it's more toward western Canada. $400 of the $1320 is for shipping...
Guest Radium April 27, 2003 April 27, 2003 I got mine from IA last october. It's 72x30x30 and needed 7 guys to carry into my basement. I'm glad Mitch solved his delivery problem. Make sure Mitch goes over with you about what the tank should have before he ships it. Mine arrived WITHOUT eurobracing and foam bottom. I was obviously quite upset and he had to send me the eurobracing with caulk and I had to put it on myself. Shipping it back to him was not an option with this 800lb giant. It took me 3 days of tedious work. I should have charged him for it. Even at The stand is very good though.
Guest phillipw April 27, 2003 April 27, 2003 Thanks for the info.. He faxed me a sheet with all the details but I'll call him next week and double check on everything.
