DonP January 17, 2009 Share January 17, 2009 I have two Pepsi barrels for RODI and saltwater. Cut part of the tops out, put hinges and knobs on them to make doors. The problem is that the hinge on the saltwater barrel rusted and started leaching into the water. Took the hinge and knob off wanting to replace them with stainless or hard plastic ones. Can't find any at Home Depot or Lowes, but both have brass. Would brass be ok to use in this application or saltwater in general, or do I need to go with stainless or plastic? If the later, do you know where I can find them locally? Thanks, Don

DonP January 17, 2009 Author Share January 17, 2009 If that is the case, then any suggestions on where to get plastic hinges locally? I see a some on the net, but would pay 3-4x the price of the hinges in shipping, so would prefer to buy locally if possible.
BeltwayBandit January 18, 2009 Share January 18, 2009 you can make a simple hinge with plastic zip ties. That would probably work for what you need. Just drill a couple of holes and thread the zip tie through, then lock it in on itself and your done.
Grav January 18, 2009 Share January 18, 2009 Brass has copper in it. Copper bad, everything dies.
