When i make saltwater I have another container and put the float switch in there so when it fills it turns off. Ro output is spilt with one to the saltwater container and the other going to the makeup. They both have valves to turn each of them off or on. I want to put my topoff container on a latching system and also have a single float switch (that i can turn on or off when i need to refill the container) but want to utilize the single valve that i have hooked up to the RO. Anyone know how i can do this?

Anyone know how i can do this? Not quite understanding what you have, or what your objective is... The 'float switch' that you are talking about on your ro/di output - electrical switch, controlling what? You physically move that float switch to a different container? You now have two valves, but you want to use one valve? How are you fixed for the mechanical 'float valves? I am planning to put one on my saltwater container, AND a manual valve, so I can turn it off when mixing saltwater, and using saltwater, so it doesn't dilute the mix - but when I want, I can leave it filling up with ro/di water, and have it automatically shut off when full. Maybe someone else understands the question better than I do. bob
Rascal January 12, 2009 January 12, 2009 I'm not quite sure I'm following you either, but here's how I do it in case that helps. RO/DI goes to FW resevoir with float valve and auto-shut-off on the RO/DI. ATO in sump feeds from this FW resevoir. Then I have a SW mixing tank which I feed with a Mag 5 sitting in the FW resevoir. A cord switch turns the Mag 5 on and off. Another Mag 5 with cord switch sits in the SW mixing tank and feeds the sump when I do a WC. There is also JG valve b/n the feed pipe and the RO/DI which I can turn on and off. Here's how it works. Starting from scratch (storage tanks empty), I turn the JG valve on, feeding the RO/DI until the FW tank fills up. Then I turn on the feed to the SW tank, add salt and turn on PHs, and leave the JG valve on until the FW tank fills again. Then I turn the JG valve off (so just in case my ATO fails the results wouldn't be disasterous). Next time I do a WC I repeat the process. A pump in my sump empties about 25G of water into a sink, then I hit the feed pump from the SW mixing tank to replac that, then the feed pump in the FW resevoir refills the SW mixing tank, then I turn on the JG valve until the FW tank is refilled, and turn it off until I am ready to repeat the process again. It would be better to have everything gravity fed but my system and space just doesn't allow for it, so I am forced to rely on pumps with switches. Other than that though, it works pretty well for me.
ReeferMan January 12, 2009 Author January 12, 2009 Water storage has one float switch hooked up to a valve that closes off the water supply to the RO. When I need water for making fresh saltwater I put the float switch from the water storage and place it in a 55g drum i use for salt water. I am try to put a latching system on my water storage container and hook it up to the valve thats normally closed. I also want to hook up another float switch to my 55g barrel and have that hooked up to the same valve but need to bypass the latching system. understand?
