Guest snapper March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 I've ordered and received some nice pre-cut 6" disks of acrylic from US Plastics. My plan is to take the clear 4" tubes I've got on hand and glue them directly to the discs to make the top flanges for Nilsen and Ca reactors. What's the best way to glue them? I've heard acetone works well, but don't know how it's done. I was going to use two-part liquid epoxy that comes in the seringes. Also, what's a good source for large O-rings? Any help will be most appreciated. Thanks. Snapper
Guest Kimo March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 Eric - If you're gluing acrylic to acrylic, use Weld On. I have sued both WeldOn 3 and WeldOn 16 - 16 is FAR easier to work with if you don't care about what the edge looks like. 3 is like water and will run if you aren't careful. 16 has a gel like consistency - Kind of like gel toothpaste. I got mine from tap plastics online. It was pretty cheap and I have quite a bit. It works REALLY well. If you want to try some I have some. I have a can of 3 and a tube of 16, as well as some applicators. Jamie
Guest snapper March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 Jamie, That'd be great if you could hook me up. Maybe I can return the favor with some project work you're looking to do (Nilsen, etc...) Please pm a phone number so we can get in touch this weekend. Thanks again. Eric
michaelg March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 Eric- it is suggested to use 16 if you at all question that your edges of the tube are truelly flat. It fills gaps. Sand down the edge real well to the smallist grit you can find. The weldons are solvent, thus "melt" the 2 pieces of plastic together, with is how the bond is so strong. Michael
Larry Grenier March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 And remember that if you see corals growing on the outside of the tank, it's probably because you inhaled a little too much glue. :p Remember me as a possible Nilsen reactor customer if you're so inclined.
Guest snapper March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 Larry, just tell me the specs you're looking for and I can build one, most ricki-tic
Guest snapper March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 course, after I build it, it will have to sit in my garage for 6 months til it gets down to the 50% off Larry bargain hunter category :D :D :D
Larry Grenier March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 75 gallon tank without a calcium reactor. I'd want to be able to pump water in with a peristalic pump to have it overflow into my sump. How about 50% off and I'll throw-in a 6-pack and a recording of dueling banjos (inside jjoke).
Guest snapper March 21, 2003 March 21, 2003 bling, bling, bling, bling bling bling bling, bling, blingggggg throw in a set of worn coveralls, the stench of a mountain man, and a penchant for piggys and you're on!!!!! BTW, have I mentioned you've got a real pritty mouth? Sorry, sorry, I digress. Larry, give me the dimensions. Is there a height restriction for the reactor? How bout cost plus $40 bucks, reasonable???
Larry Grenier March 22, 2003 March 22, 2003 Now, lets you just drop dem... Where was I. Oh, yeah. cost+$40 is a deal. It will be behind the tank in the unfinished part of my basement so height isn't a problem, whatever you think is appropriate.
Guest snapper March 22, 2003 March 22, 2003 Methinks Kimo is interested also. Might take me a few weeks, will that be alright? Tough to get supplies up here in the mountains, city folk don't come round these parts much....
Guest va_reefman March 23, 2003 March 23, 2003 Hey Eric, I thought I was first inline for these baby....When do I get one? I have been dripping Kalk together with my CA reactor and I want to get one of those as soon as I can so I don't have to do the drip any more.... Thanks, John
