blaze98 August 14, 2008 August 14, 2008 What could be causing my calcium to rise? I have been monitoring all levels for the past 2 weeks in preparation for dosing Prodibio. It was holding steady at 440 for the past few days then in the last 2 days it has jumped up to 480. I haven't dosed anything and the only thing I added is top off water. Mag and KH have been the same over the past couple of days.
Highland Reefer August 14, 2008 August 14, 2008 (edited) Which test kit are you using & did you use the same test kit for both readings? The reason I ask is that with the AP Calcium test kits, I have had similar problems with readings. I switched to the Salifert and have not had those problems. I have also had similar problems with the AP KH test kits and switched to the Salifert. Another thing is that you have to mix the solution thoroughly before you add more drops. If you go to fast, then you can get false readings. The AP test kits give you a skinny little vial to mix everything in, which takes more time then the Salifert kits which give you a larger vial for easier mixing between the addition of drops. My two cents. Edited August 14, 2008 by Highland Reefer
blaze98 August 15, 2008 Author August 15, 2008 I am using the API kit, I think I will pick up the Salifert kits, I have the MG kit and it is very accurate
Jon Lazar August 15, 2008 August 15, 2008 I switched from Salifert to API test kits and I've found it MUCH easier to mix the API reagents in the larger Salifert vial. I do this for both alkalinity and calcium tests. Jon
blaze98 August 15, 2008 Author August 15, 2008 I am going to try this for the next few days to see if I get the same results before I pick up the Salifert tests.
