Hokie41275 July 18, 2008 July 18, 2008 I bought a small maxima awhile back and it jumped into a bed of zooanthids. Now the zoo's are growing on the clam and working up toward the mantle. I have moved the clam away from any zoo's, but i was wondering if there is a problem with zooanthids being so close to the clam's mantle. Any one have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks
flowerseller July 18, 2008 July 18, 2008 They will only grow so close to the mantle until they are shaded. If they keep send runners to close. I'd cut them back.
steveoutlaw July 18, 2008 July 18, 2008 Had the same thing happen to my Maxima. Barry at clamsdirect.com told me to kalk paste them to keem them from aggravating the clams mantle. I would get it away from the polyps, kalk paste any on the shell, and put the clam in another area. Good luck
steveoutlaw July 19, 2008 July 19, 2008 I'll bet they didn't suggest to boil them. Nope, they told me to pour boiling water over them, and then inhale really big when the steam got up to me, and.......HEY! I see where this is going! I get nauseaus even thinking about that. BTW - the CDC came back to me and told me that their testing showed that it was only the palythoas that were dangerous......hence PALYtoxin.
