Another 90g build

Recommended Posts

So here's my 90g build. Everything just became stable this week, but I'm fighting the GHA that I received from the previous owner (ugh).

I have the CUC, and nothing else for now. I'm thinking a photo period of 4 - 6 hours would be best until the GHA recedes. Some opinions on that would be great.

Well, here are some pics.

On a good note, the Nas snails have decided that they wanted to lay eggs everywhere. :)

On a bad note, if I leave the lights during my working hours, the whole tank turns green..... ARGH!!!! :blast:

Where are you getting the water that you're using? Larry has a great suggestion, set up a phosban reactor. Also do some 50% water changes. That will export nasties that died off when you moved the rock.

Fatalities:

Sailfin Tang

LMB (don't know yet, but I think he's gonna go to the big ocean)

Issues:

Bubble Algae - Plucked it out and did not pop the bubbles.

GHA - Ugh. Why did I ever buy LR that had GHA on it.

Cyano - I swish and swish and change water and change water.... ugh!!!!!!

So, today my wife caught the LMB in the intake tube of the MJ1200 (didn't have a screen to it. ugh!!!!). Looks like I may lose the LMB, but hope he pulls through. He's hiding right now but I'll try to scope him out tomorrow.

I've been battling cyano, GHA, BA. Ugh......

Parameters:

PH - 8.4

Temp - 80-83 (I'm thinking the high temp could be a big cause)

Nitrite - 0

Ammonia - 0

Nitrate - 0

Calcium - 460

Alk - 7dkh

Phosphate - .015

I'm getting ready to sell all my livestock, cook my rocks, and start over. What does everyone else think? :) Will post pictures once my wife gets her camera back. :)

Latest update:

Bubble Algae is gone.

Cyano still there, but 30% water changes every 3 - 4 days has helped out a lot

Hair algae, still there, but I'm hoping that I can win.

So all parameters are doing better now since I've been using 2 part to get my alk and calc up. Current tests are:

PH - 8.4

Nitrite - 0

Nitrate - 0

Ammonia - 0

Alk - 7

Calcium - 460

Phosphate - 0

Temp 80-82* (Still thinks this is an issue).

Equipment:

Protein Skimmer - GSA Shorty fed by MJ1200

Heaters - 1 x 200W stealth, 1 x 200W Jager

Sump - 20L 3 Sections with Return in the middle chamber using a Mag 9.5

Refugium - ~5 gallons in the 3rd chamber.

Phosban Reactor - Running Carbon fed by MJ400(need to buy my own and return yours Eric). Hopefully this weekend.

PH - 2 x K4, 2 x MJ1200 (Sure Flow)

Flow = 950 + 1200 + 1200 + 2100 + 2100 = 7550 gph (turnover rate of 80x)

Here are a few pics:

Maybe it's the pictures but I don't see any cyano or HA. It's normal for a tank to go through those cycles though. Patience and water changes clear those issues up.

Sorry to hear about your losses though.
