Well after having my tank setup the same way for about 3 years I am finally making some drastic changes. Up until today my tank had a mix of SPS, LPS and softies. I also had some large fish. some did not get along all that well. I have been planning my change and will be taking pictures along the way. The following is my plan and I am always looking for feedback and opinions. Different ideas are welcome.

My setup currently has

Very large sailfin

adult emperor(sold)

Large purple tang(sold)

Large orange shoulder tang(sold)

large yellow tang

small hippo tang

pair percula clowns

pair flame angles

green chromis

small niger trigger

yellow tail damsel

Corals

very large hammer coral

2 very large torch corals one green one brown

bunch of SPS frags mostly from Leishmans tank

I still have a lot to learn about the SPS including the names but will be looking to put a couple more in my tank. I do not want a million different types of SPS just some really nice frags that I can grow. I will be getting rid through trades or sale my large sailfin, large yellow tang, small niger, green chromis.

I removed all of my larger tangs out of the tank.

The fish I plan on having in the tank are as follows

My pair of flame angels

small hippo

Yellow tail damsel

yellow goby and another goby with a couple of pistol shrimp

I have a very small sailfin tang in my 40 which will be moved to my 210

small yellow tang in my 40 will be getting 2 more for a total of 3

5 royal grammas in my 40 which will be moved to my 210

a pair of clarki or sabee clowns and anemonee in my 40 to be moved

plan on buying small purple

5 bartlet anthias

powder blue tang

copper band butterfly currently in my 90

so the list is

Sailfin

hippo

3 yellow tangs

purple tang

powder blue tang

pair flame angels

yellow tail damsel

5 royal grammas

5 bartlet anthias

2 gobies

pair clarki clowns

copper band butterfly

blue spotted jaw fish

Any comments or thoughts about the stocking? I was considering getting a 2nd hippo as well.

My layout will be much different then it currently is. I have some really nice rock but am planning on removing some to make it a more open plan. One side, and the back will be SPS. I am looking to give my SPS pieces as much room to grow as possible. I think at least for now the other side will have some of my LPS corals. I may eventually remove them but I am on the fence about that. I have one large rock covered with schrooms which I am removing as well. I like the schrooms but I feel they are harder to control then most of the other corals.

I will take pictures as I begin my redo. I am always looking for input or comments.

Thanks for the thread. I am still reading it but maybe I would get 7 instead of 5. I want to see if anyone has gotten a larger number then 5 in a 210 and if that density kept the females from changing. I also want to see if the males generally will kill each other off. I am glad I saw this before I bought them.

Let me know when you are going to start, I would be glad to help out. After I move of course.

I have just started. I have gotten most of my big tangs out but am now working on re-aquascaping. The fun part. I know your schedule is kinda tough like mine but if you are around on Wednesday I will probbably be still working on geting the look I am working on.

Well last night I re-aquascaped my tank. I will take pictures when I get home tonight. After all my talk about an open area it didn't happen. I am happy with the look and can always change it to a more open look if I want.

In the process of moving I broke a bunch of my corals. On the good news it gave me an opportunity to frag and strategically place them.

The last hold out who I want to remove from the 210 is a medium sized green chromis. I have a fish trap in my tank now so maybe they will get used to it when I put food in it later today. I hope my pair of flame angels that are in the tank now do not become beligerant when I add the new fish.

Once I get my powder blue tang I will then be adding all of my other fish at the same time. I have in waiting to be added all of my other tangs, 5 royal gramas, copper band butterfly and a couple of other fish I havn't thought of. I am going to read more on the anthias thread and try and make a decision. Thanks again weapon for that thread. Does anyone else have history with keeping Bartlet anthias?

On a slightly different note. I am considering using a 400 watt ballast for my middle light and keeping my 250 watt lights on each side. Does anyone think that will look lopsided? I also currenlty use VHO acitinics. i am considering changing my MH from 10k to a slightly bluer 14k

My main pump is an Iwaki 100. This pump has been very reliable for me but I bought a hammerhead pump about 6 months ago and am planning on plumbing that in to the system. I figure with this larger pump I will also be able to build a manifold and attach it to my skimmer and media reactor. this way i will have one pump running everything. Currently I have the Iwaki running my 3 tanks and mag pumps running each piece of equipment. i will keep my Iwaki and mags as backup in case of some kind of failure.

Comments are always welcome.

And one last point. Happy Birthday to me. My wife is taking me to BRK to buy some corals. The only time I can get permission to go to a fish store so I better take advantage. Any suggestions on SPS? I like small frags. I already have a bunch of green. I am enjoy growing them out, I am patient.

Thats it for now.

I don't think the lighting will look unbalanced but I have a 400W PFO ballast i'm not currently using if you'd like to try it out. also have a luminarc mini that's wired for the pfo plug if you need to borrow the reflector too. oh, and a new 14k bulb.... LMK if you're interested

Quite a difference plumbing in a 5800gph circulation pump versus a 2000gph pressure pump.

Not apples to apples and pressure makes a big difference versus plain flow.

Go "big" and stay "big" as long as you can with many stragically placed outlet lines.

You can feed eveything you mentioned (and maybe more) if plumbed correctly.

Just finished the same.

Oh, Happy Birthday

Flowerseller; do you have a diagram of what you did. I am curious to see how the transition works. I am thinking even though the Iwaki is pressure rated that the hammerhead should be strong enough to run everything.

What size is your system? What pump were you using and what did you go to?
