i was thinking of adding 3 or 4 yellow tangs. would this be appropriate in a 180?

Check out the TOTM...

I've found that with yellow tangs they can be kept together in groups. I used to keep 2 in my 125 without any problems. In fact, they became best of friends and were always swimming together and eating together. If you introduce them at the same time, that would be best, if you add them one at a time, be prepared for the last one to get beat on. I think that in general with the tangs you are dividing up the aggression amongst them when you have multiples. At the Symposium I spoke to Mitch Carl and Andy Dehart about their opinions on stocking multiple tangs and they quoted the old 1 or 5 rule of thumb. Keep either 1, or keep 5, don't go in between.

I have 4 yellow tangs and a powder brown in my 240, just make sure you add them all at the same time.
