Gatortailale December 10, 2004 December 10, 2004 Well it has been some time since have seen or experienced anything cool with my tanks. I set up my 120 tank in Aug/sept time of 2003. I started thinking about adding an angel or two and johnc let me borrow his angel book. It had a lot of good info. in the book. Once interesting think it said was that emperors can make a clicking sound. More on this in a bit - more tank background. Around Christmas time 2003 I added a juv. emperor (& small majestic). For most of this past summer I would frequently feed the emperor flake food out of my fingers - which I thought was fun and cool. Majestic still too shy to feed from my hands. Back to the part of emperors making noise. About 2 months ago my juv emp. started to change to it's sub adult form - OK, I'll try to get pics this weekend. Up to this point, I thought the only talking fish I would see was the one on my daughter's elmo video where elmo talks to a king fish. Last night I decided to hand feed the emporor, something I haven't done in few months. Well it watched me grab the food and was right out in front in the tank and I stuck my hand it and it circled me, then LET OUT 3 CLICKS and came up and ate the food from my fingers. I was just blown away that I could hear the click noise. To me it was one of my top 5 reefing experiences. You all are probably not impressed and I didn't do a very good job telling story, but it's more cool to witness it in person than to try to explain. [nana] fsh1]]

Lee Stearns December 10, 2004 December 10, 2004 Any nipping from these angels at your sps? I have been leary to get one of these beauties till I have done a lot of research and hear of some good luck with them around SPS. Sounds like they are doing well with three tangs already!
Gatortailale December 10, 2004 Author December 10, 2004 All my fish seem to be model fi*@zens :p Once in while I see them nip at a coral, but probably more that they saw a pod vs. them picking on someting to kill it. I put in a sheet of nori ever day to give them something to graze on. Also feed frozen brine, mysis mix in evenings. I had the majestic for 1 month before I got juv. emp. First day or 2, majestic chased the emp. all over. After pecking order established, no problems. Same for tangs - once they sort out who is boss. Helps to have lots of hiding space too, just my theory.
GaryL December 12, 2004 December 12, 2004 it appears the emporor was thanking you for the food. that's pretty exciting. im sure if your wife is like mine, when you told her she was like: "W H A T E V E R!" :p the following with something like "weirdo". at least we will understand your excitement. i wanted an angel anyway... makes me want one even more now
