Larry Grenier February 21, 2007 February 21, 2007 This is the fixture I have over my 65. It came with my used tank so warranty is out of the question. Two of the inner-4 bulbs keep going-out. I pull the fixture and crank the bulbs and they work until the timer cycles. I'm no electrician, should I try to open the fixture and fix it? I suppose new endcaps would do it but I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated.
Rascal February 21, 2007 February 21, 2007 Try checking the wire connections in the endcaps. You may have to take the endcaps apart to remove the wires, then put the endcaps back together again before reinserting the wires.
YBeNormal February 22, 2007 February 22, 2007 (edited) Larry, The TEK light fixture is not difficult to disassemble (been there, done that) and I agree that it might be just a loose wire or corroded contacts. Worst case is a flaky ballast. The inner 4 bulbs all run on one ballast so replacement would not be too pricey of an option. Let me know if you need any assistance with it. dandy7200 February 22, 2007 February 22, 2007 Sounds like end caps. My experience is once they start doing this the ballast goes soon after if not taken care of promptly. In other words don't use the center lights until checking out the end caps.
Larry Grenier February 22, 2007 Author February 22, 2007 Thanks folks, I guess I'll open it to get to the endcaps. Bob, you may be hearing from me for advice, fello manassaholian
