Grav February 13, 2007 February 13, 2007 It has been a while, what are we doing for home depot type sand these days and where is it? Last time it was tractor supply in Manassas. Still good? Thanks
Prunfarm February 14, 2007 February 14, 2007 It was my understanding that the sands now are silica based.
lmeyer February 14, 2007 February 14, 2007 Southdown has seemingly disappeared from the market. Occasionally a bag or two comes up, but not any consistent supply that I am aware of. Borneman and Calfo are having a discussion about sands on marinedepot (http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic59884-13-1.aspx), but I haven't really been following it. Steven Pro just bought sand for his greenhouse aquaculture system from http://www.aragonitesource.com. He hasn't posted any analysis/opinion of the sand yet. It looks like this is for commercial use, so I think it would only work as a really big group buy (they talk about truck load or ship load on their website).
Boxxr February 14, 2007 February 14, 2007 (edited) Last time it was tractor supply in Manassas. Still good? As of December, no, it was not. I went to about a dozen places in Prince William, Fairfax, and Loudon County and all of them had silica based sand. I wanted the fine sand for my 120, but settled with the reef floor (?) argonite sand sold at many of the LFS. Edited February 14, 2007 by Boxxr
