trble81 February 10, 2007 February 10, 2007 All, I've read your posts on similar topics and understand that you really do get what you pay for. Any way, we have 35 gallon hex tank and our Visi-Jet ps100 decided to stop making bubbles (ugh!!). This happened before so I took off the little air tube...nothing. Checked for water in the air intake...nothing. Yanked that sucker out and tried to clean any obstruction with the wire cleaning tool thingy that they give you....well when I tried to go through the air intake, I hit what felt like a brick wall. I've cleaned it before and not had this problem. I'm thinking it's done. Any way, I'm looking for advice as to what to get. Again, we have a 35 gallon hex tank and we're looking for a hang on skimmer. I'd like not to spend a ton of money but going the cheap route kind of just burned us. I know that Petco has a Red Sea Prizim skimmer but their online reviews say it's good but loud. I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance! --Mike and Heather
steveoutlaw February 10, 2007 February 10, 2007 Hey guys- The first thing I would do is soak your visijet in a vinegar and water mixture. That should help to remove the blockage. But you're right, you should get something that works well. The best hangon skimmer for the money (in my opinion) is the Aqua-c remora. The Aqua C work well with your tank and not take up too much room. You can usually find good deals on them on here or RC. Good luck.
trble81 February 10, 2007 Author February 10, 2007 Thanks for the suggestions Steve. We'll try the soak and start looking online. Does any body have any other suggestions so we can do some comparison shopping? I know it's difficult because of the size of our tank and the fact we are looking for a hang on skimmer.
trble81 February 10, 2007 Author February 10, 2007 An update: We soaked the visijet in a vinegar and water mixture and tried cleaning it out with the metal cleaning tool and hit the same blockage again, but this time Mike was able to get it to clear out. For the time being the skimmer is working again but I still think we should get a new one since this seems to happen too often (we have only had it for about a month). Any other suggestions (or offers of skimmers for sale) would be much appriciated. Thanks, Heather (and Mike too)
Ingo February 10, 2007 February 10, 2007 the Red Sea Prizm is what we use in our bedroom aquarium. it is not too loud, but i do not like its performance. I am very happy with the Red Sea HOT Skimmer. have been using it for 7 years. I clean it once a month for better performance.
trble81 February 14, 2007 Author February 14, 2007 Steve, Just wanted to let you know that the order for an AquaC-Remora went out to Marine Depot last night. Hopefully this snow/ice/sleet storm won't push the delivery off too much (I just did the standard delivery). Oh by the way, we did the soak and the skimmer started working again...and then it stopped...and then sort of again...so on and so on... (I can't wait until we get one that actually works!!!)
