I just moved from my 55gal system (Total water = 70gal) to my 75 gallon system (Total water = 105 gal) and had to mix 45 gallons of saltwater when it was all said and done...

That being said, it's been a week or so now, and I have hardly skimmed anything. I haven't messed with the skimmer yet since the migration, and perhaps playing around with it will create some more skimmate, but my question to you is this:

Is there just not enough nutrients in the water yet to skim? And if that's the case, can I cut back on water changes (assuming "levels are fine") until the water "matures"?

I would imagine there should be pleanty to skim, try adjusting the skimmer. What kind of skimmer is it?

I would wait a month to give all that new water time to get dirty before playing with the skimmer. I wouldn't change the water during the month either. I can't give you more details of what you should change since I don't have any clue as to what your WC schedule is like.

5 gallons twice a week, topping off with half kalk, and half plain RODI (my Alk is near 11, so I don't dose kalk all the time)

60% monthly waterchange is pretty agressive. Kudos....I think :) I would possibly lay off for a month and let the tank do it's thing and them resume your normal schedule. Even if you stay at 10g/week you are going to be doing 40% monthly.......

....thanks this gives me a reason to study more anyways....
