modelrr December 13, 2006 Share December 13, 2006 (edited) I recently got an old little giant 'quarium series' pump (around 700-800gph I think) running my protein skimmer ... It's extremely loud though, and is constantly making a really annoying ringing noise. Do you think it's because of how old it is? I've never had any experience with other external pumps, so I have no idea what it's supposed to sound like any help would be great Edited December 13, 2006 by modelrr
flowerseller December 13, 2006 Share December 13, 2006 Couple things you could try that might help and both involve damping vibration. Set the pump on a mouse pad and use a short length of flexible pipe on both the inlet and outlets. Another is to check to see if the fan or housing has dings in them or a blade is out of alignment. These can cause the ringing you're complaining of. They are not known for being the quietest pumps but they sure do throw the water hard.
