dandy7200 November 21, 2006 Share November 21, 2006 I decided to pimp my skimmer a little . This is a octopus nw200 8" body, 3" neck 24" tall, Identical size as a deltec ap701 I wanted to use a larger pump than the stock 3000lph pump to get more air and the neck was a limiting factor, same reason you have to tune down the air on a 701. So I searched everwhere for a metric union, couldn't find one and ended up with a 3" schedule 40 that had to be ground out very slightly. The neck went from 5" tall to 11". Put a few more holes in the body. For the pump I bought the new Euroreef SP4 which is a modded genx4100 with the newly redesigned pinwheel, modded volute and venturi. Test Time!!! Skimmer will be ran in sump, feed is a mj900 water level set to bottom of union. Enter poo... Picture take at 20 seconds. 1 minute. 2 minutes. Yes, thats more air than a Eheim1260. 5 minutes. ErikS November 21, 2006 Share November 21, 2006 Nice job. Seems like the balance is about right, I notice the bubbles are down close to water exit. Any ideas on trying the meshwheel?
dandy7200 November 21, 2006 Author Share November 21, 2006 I saw your post about this on RC.Very nice work, Dan. Thanks Dan. Did you get your gate valve mod done? looks like your going to need a drain in the collection cup buddy! Nice job! Thanks, I like a clean neck so will just wassh every time I dump. Nice job. Seems like the balance is about right, I notice the bubbles are down close to water exit. Any ideas on trying the meshwheel? Yeah, I couldn't be happier with the air to water ratio inside the skimmer, bubbles shooting pretty close to bottom but about a inch from the exit pipe. I ended up putting a T inside the body for the pump output and found that to be the best vs. a 90 for this pump and body combo. I have a genx2400 with the meshweel done and had considered using that to feed with. Right now I am pretty happy with the new ER pinwheel, while not the cheapest option it is giving me a great result. I am kind of waiting though and watching as the mesh is being tested, I think once the correct enkamat is unveiled it will be better. We will see, I really can't imagine any finer bubbles than what I am getting now. I will try to get a close up shot of that just for referance. dandy7200 November 21, 2006 Author Share November 21, 2006 looks like your gonna be dumping it every 5 minutes Actually the skimmate that was used to test was about 3 days worth from 2 differant tanks. I wanted to see how fast the processing time was to clean the water. It took about 4 minutes and the another minute for the head to stabilize. That cup holds almost a gallon so it should be fine on the system it is going on for about a week of wet skimming.
