i have read different things about this shrimp some of it good some not. i have 2 yellowtail damsels a yellow tang a coral beauty angel and three peppermint shrimp. i hear they are agressive toward damsels wrasses and other shrimp and possibly corals and anemones. what are folks experience about this?

I have heard a lot of people say that they are aggressive, but I have never had them eat anything except other coral banded shrimp that were not sexed properly - that and the occasional bristle worm. They are aggressive towards other shrimp, but they are also extremely slow compared to most other shrimp so never really do much more than lunge at them. I used to keep a pair of them in a 125 with lots of fire shrimp and cleaner shrimp (a couple of peppermint shrimp, too) and never lost one to a coral banded shrimp.

Let me second what Dave said... I've got one in my 180 now with a fire shrimp and 2 cleaners... they are oprotunistic (the coral banded).... I think if they did catch something they might eat it, but typicall don't "chase after" fish... Allthough I have seen them chase after shrimp (he's never caught one).

Dave

I've got a big one lurking around my 55. She's fairly aggressive, but like mentioned above, she's pretty slow, and I haven't seen her catch a fish or another shrimp.

I will comment though, that NONE of my fish go on that side of the tank where she lives. I have 6 fish in my 55, and they all live on the right side of the tank. None go near the banded shrimp.

I haven't seen her nip at coral, but at night I see her roaming around the tank like she owns it.

IMO, I say be cautious, but they're not extremely dangerous.
