Guest Nate and Roshni August 4, 2004 August 4, 2004 Hey Nathan, At one of the wamas meetings you suggested glasscages for our new aquarium. I thought you said that they were in N.C. but they are in TN. Did i visit the wrong site?
Guest HVF21221 August 5, 2004 August 5, 2004 Glasscages are in TN. I just picked up a tank from them last Sat. I am very satisfied with the whole process. I picked up the tank in Manasass, VA. Much closer for most of you since I am in Baltimore. Howard
michaelg August 5, 2004 August 5, 2004 How was the workmanship. In some of the photos I have seen, the silicon job didn't seem very clean- but hard to tell without seeing it in person.
Guest Leishman August 5, 2004 August 5, 2004 Looks great. I got my 250gal on Sat also. 65x36x25 All seams are tidy.
Guest HVF21221 August 6, 2004 August 6, 2004 I agree with Leishman. Tank is great. michaelg: I read many posts where people were concerned with sloppy silicone but every tank on the truck looked good. I think alot of things have improved with the company. Now it's time to start building a stand! Howard
krish August 6, 2004 August 6, 2004 You can inform them to be meticulous with the silicone on the front and sides. Ask them to be generous everywhere else. When i ordered mine last march, i read a post on RC about a tank that leaked less than a year into use. After i got mine, i cleaned it up well and added another coat of silicone. Mine has euro bracing and is feakin heavy. Its now about 13 months and doing well. Would i purchase another tank from them? - Absolutely. Can't beat the cost/Quality/Custom order flexibility/Almost Free delivery option. -krish
Eve August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 This is great info and right on time. I'm thinking about ordering a tank from them and a friend is too. Apparently they offer low iron glass. Has anyone gotten the low iron glass and if so, what do you think? Was the price difference significant?
Guest mikesroth August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 I had asked them about the low iron glass, and was told it was about $100 more. I think that was for tanks in the 150-180 gallon range.
Eve August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 That doesn't seem bad at all since the base price of a tank in that size range is about $300-350 and dealing with them hopefully should be much less stressful than trying to deal with Mitch at IA :-)
Guest Leishman August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 It cost me $80 extra for the Low Iron on the front pane only, (tank will be in wall), the difference is HUGE. A piece of white paper looks to have a greenish look to it thriugh the back and sides, but through the front it is WHITE. Mine is still on the living room floor waiting for the stand to be built in the basement, (by me).
Guest HVF21221 August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 The tank I got has 3 sides low iron glass. The 3 panels 4x4x2 each was $150 extra, very worth it in my opinion. After reading several post about what people are paying for starphire glass I did not consider it. I asked just out of curiousity and was very suprised by the low price. Like Riks mine is sitting on the living room floor since it was completed ahead of scheduled delivery date (which was fine by me!). Howard
Eve August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 So Howard - you had yours shipped to you and didn't use the pick up in Manassas option?
Guest HVF21221 August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 No, I picked it up at Manassas. Just a month before the expected date.
Guest mikesroth August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 I am slightly confused about that. I thought I read somewhere that if you pick it up at their show, there is no shipping.... But I thought I read on their site that they do charge you something for them bringing it to a show, just not as much as shipping would be. Did you get charged any extra beyond the price of the tank and whatever mods you wanted?
Guest HVF21221 August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 $60 for pick up at the show(Manassas). The thing is, business has picked up and he has made 2 trips of special orders between the "normal" show dates. If he has enough orders to fill the tractor trailer he may make special trips between shows. It all depends on how many tanks are on order. Hope this clears things up, Howard
Guest mikesroth August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 Some, I guess. I would think that the $60 is much less that normal delivery. Just one more thing to add to the price if I decide to go through them. They are what has kept me from jumping on a few of the used tanks, the old.. hmmm do I pay for that Used or I could one new from GlassCages for a little bit more than that.... hehe
Guest Leishman August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 $60? You got over charged by 20%! And mine came on the same truck as yours! (20% sounds much bigger than $10) Break down of cost Tank 65x36x25 (253g) $500 Low iron upgrade (front only) $80 Two holes in back ($20 ea) $40 two 1 1/2' heavy duty bulk heads ($20 ea) $40 Delivery to Manassas $50 Total $710 (but my card was only charged $700)
Guest HVF21221 August 12, 2004 August 12, 2004 $10 more and I had to load the 390 gallon into a van on the truck in front of mine. The guy that came to pick it up could not even lift his corner!! Hmm.. let me think, yeah I'm still happy! Howard
Guest Andrew August 13, 2004 August 13, 2004 Leishman, I would love to see a pic, even if it just sitting on the floor. I have been thinking about getting a tank similar in dimensions as yours from glasscages. I would like to see how they did the Euro bracing. My dimensions are 72x36x24. Did they help you load your tanks?
Eve August 13, 2004 August 13, 2004 I wanted to order and pick up at the Manassas show in December, but the way this is looking (other people may be ordering too), we might have trailer just for this area before then :-) Leishman - how did they do the charges - down payment then balance or all at once either before they start (hope not) or all at once when the tank was finished?
