There is a lot to know about keeping a successful, stable reef tank, and there are a lot of opinions on how to do it. For everything you put in your tank, from hardware to livestock, there are multiple choices about sizes and types, and it can be hard to sort out fact from myth from hype.

Here at WAMAS we are lucky to have some world-class reefers, so I figured we could do something to spread the wealth of knowledge.

Here's the plan:

New members who are interested in learning more about the realities of equipment, livestock and husbandry show up at my place to eat, drink and talk about reef aquaria. Several veteran reefers, including Eve, 143gadgets, dhoch and Scot711 (note two TOTMs on that list) have agreed to come and share their knowledge and experience. I will also have equipment on hand for demos and discussion. As an added treat, I will try to get people to argue about everything I am doing wrong with my own tanks.

I can certainly put together an informal talk about the types of corals and equipment commonly found in reef aquaria, but I am hoping that it will be more of a question/answer/discussion/eating/drinking kind of event.

Who: Any WAMAS member who wants to know more about the nuts and bolts of reefkeeping.

What: Equipment on hand will include lighting (PC, halide, T5), Ca reactors, test kits, controllers, autotopoff, skimmers, a PAR meter and much more. There will also be a large selection of books to look over, and a dissecting microscope for looking at reef tank microfauna.

When: 2-5 pm, Saturday, December 2, 2006

Where: My place near the intersection of Grubb Rd and East-West Hwy (where Chevy Chase, Silver Spring, and the District come together) PM for address and directions.

So PM or post if you're interested, and let us know what you want to hear about.

Hey Dave,

Just wondering if there is any more room for tomorrow and what if anything do I need to bring. Sorry for being so late I thought I had responded, but when I checked my to do list and realized I needed to do it. If allowed it will be a guest and I.

Thanks,

Henry

Come on over. We may have to break into two groups, but the house can handle it.
