Garden eel substrate

Has anyone ever kept garden eels? The substrate I read needs to be 6” deep minimum but I do not want the whole substrate to be 6” in the tank. If I add 6” to just one side, do you think that weight not evenly distributed will break the tank? It’s a 40 gallon

I actually just saw these videos a few days ago - I don't know about their long-term success but something like this might be an option

Thank you! It makes me feel better that he does have heavier sand on one side. I had it sloping left to right but maybe I’ll do it in the front to the back for more weight across a wider area
