I have been very successfully utilizing light out method to reduced cyano, dino and green film algae (haven't had other, so I don't know id applicable). I am sure most of you here know and familiar with this, I thought I pass it on anyway.
Occasionally, these nuisance pop up once in awhile in my tank. So I usually do light out for about 24-36 hours at a time whenever I notice the algae starting to spread.
I noticed green film algae, however, don't completely gone with the 24-36 hours (I like to keep some for the snails). I am pretty sure it can be wiped out with a longer light out period.
