  2. I use a 110 gal fresh water tank and a 175 gal salt water tank. The the tanks are great if you have the room and mixing salt once every two months is bonus. The gallon markings on the side also make mixing easier. When I purchased two tanks at the same time, I only had to pay shipping for one tank. I believe both tanks were around $350 for both inclusing shipping. HTH http://www.ntotank.com/verticaltanks.html
  3. I live right by Wally's and too am hoping for great improvements. I feel I must comment on the quality of the large rack of tanks they have built. Being a non-engineer type, I believe the large rack is serously underbuilt. It is about 40-50 10 gallon aquariums stacked on top of each other. It is basically a bunch of crossed 2x4's with no support bracing. Each row of 8 tanks us supported by about 12 drywall screws. They did not even use and exterior grade screw. The rack is also very tall, I am 6'2" and the racks are taller then me. I mentioned my questions to one of the employees and he stated lots of people were saying the rack is not supported correctly but the owner had done some calculations and said each brace was supporting X amount of weight and would be fine. As I stated before, I am not a general contractor or any type of construction expert. I could be totally wrong, but from what I researched before I built my first stand is you do not use screws to support your load. If there is a general contractor or structural engineer type who would like to stop by take a look, that would be great. I would hate to see a new LFS owner who seems to be headed in the right direction with this store have some type of tragic accident happen.
  4. I believe that "sale" price may stay that way for a while. It was $3.98 a pound at our fall meeting a couple months ago. I had him pick out about 150lbs of it for me just before our fall meeting. Not only was it excellent LR, but he delivered it for free to the meeting. I would not hesitate to order more from him in the future.
  5. Get the ACIII. You can even set it up to contact you when things go bad. One of those rogue heaters becomes a bump in the road instead of a major disaster. I would not have a tank without one. Just my .02 cents.
  6. It is a decision only you can decide. But I feel putting one fish through a little stress is better then spreading something deadly to my entire tank exposing all corals and fish to disease.

  10. Nice work Dan, I hope we can get my tanks to look half as nice.
  11. I have seen that tank in person also. It is one sweet setup.
  12. You do not have to have an electrician do it. For around $1,000, Dominion power company will sell you one and hook it up. It is almost like having an extension cord for your home. When the power goes out you turn off all your circuits in your home. You then turn on only the ones you need to have running (fish related items, beer cooler etc) You then plug your outside plug into a generator you purchased. The larger generator you purchase the more items you can have run in your home. I believe it all boils down to how much inusrance you want to purchase; 1. A few dollars for a battery powered pump. 2. A few hundred dollars for a battery back up system. 3. $1,500 for a manual back up generator connected to your home. 4. $4,000+ for a fully automatic back up generator. Your choice.
  13. Welcome to the club, and yes come the the meeting on Saturday. You and I (my first meeting too) can hang out and act like we have been members for years!
  14. I could help also, but you would need to be more specific to be sure. It would be better if you came up with a date and time. With all the busy schedules, I believe more could commit then. Just my .02 cents.
  15. I really like the last one, excellent work. What are the dimensions of your tank? The big question is...are you happy with it?
