  1. the site wasnt lying. boxfish are related to puffer fish. however they have the ability to secrete their toxin through their skin in times of stress and or danger. it certainly can wipe out a tank. but generally in a fairly peaceful tank they do not cause any issues. in more agressive tanks though ooo boy it can get nasty. my competitor in town had sold a lady a cowfish( another type related to the boxs/puffers) and a trigger. she brought them back after the cow took out her tank and almost died. they put it in their 3000 gallon system and it died and relaesed again. it basically took out the entire system it was in. if you want more info on it feel free to ask ill dig it up. or come bug me at pufferresources.net we cover care for them there. wetwebmedia.com can help you as well as fishbase.org to save you some headaches as well, what size tank is it going in, and what other fish/corals/inverts do you have in there. the yellow boxes are mostly vegans, but do prefer inverts and can nip on corals. they require quite a big filtration system as well.
  2. well depending on the spacing (keep the holes 2 inches apart) it should be ok. Dav never say too much, I had 47x tank turn over in my 55 gallon with current in tank at over 4000gph. no the fish were not plastered to the tank walls either, but once its built jason ill try to uplaod photos of how i close looped my 55. it may give you more ideas on how to set your tank up.
  3. well thatwould be awesome. if i could cherry pick stuff i wanted and get them held til i got up there for a wamas meeting or something and just pay for feeding or holding fees etc, i might even do that. Your store even at the small size it was, was totally awesome. I work at an LFS down here and i certainly know the feeling of getting a bit peeved at customers who think its their god given right to demand a discount regardless of their position. I guess PM me or something if you happen to have any thoughts on that shipping thing. I wouldnt mind that at all if i had some ability to view the current stock then have them shipped down.
  4. got you all beat I drove 4 hours to get to sean with ybenormal, was totally worth the trip, sean if the 4 hours wasnt such a slow down, Id shop there weekly.
  5. well drilling a 55 is not difficult, and controlling the flow is easy, dont push more through the drilled overflows than they can take. about 600gph per 1" hole is a good quiet rule o thumb
  6. opposed to old jedies? you ain that old Dave :P this one aint the obi wan we are looking for :P
  7. 10 gallon fuge, probably gets 200 gph though it max. is in one side of a 20l tank for my sump atm.
  8. hey man, it was alot of funto meet you and always glad to give a helping hand with what im good at. did you ever get the mac reading the shared hard drives from the pc system? for those that havent seen any photos of rafs tank it might be a smaller one atm, but that 46 gallon bow is probably one of the best aquascape jobs ive seen for that style tank, and the colors..... oh the green in that tank is liable to make me green with envy.
  9. chip does sell his frags, though idk what ones hes got around now, pm him, his sn here is flowerseller
  10. and two shots of my tank right after the trip Ill have more of these up as time goes on Dave I wanted to see your tank as well, but thats ok, Im sure there will be a tour down the road
  11. Ybenormals tanks This is keeler, a florida stone crab hitchhiker, hes in his own jail in the sump and while hes not big (2-3 inches across) hes vicious. can shave a acrylic rod down to a flathead screwdriver.
  12. Well Im Jager, One of the newer guys on Wamas, Ybenormal was pestering me with photos and snippets of sales off the wamas sections to entice me to join, and sure enough it worked. Nice thing about it was i was going up to his house two weeks after i joined so there was sure to be added mischief. In three days We hit Blue ribbon koi, Fins and feathers, Marine scene, Centervill Aquariums, While I do not have photos of those, I do Have photos of 4 of the 5 tanks we visted (Sry Raf I totally forgot my camera in the truck when we came over, I will try to get more pics of it all later it was beautiful though.) Id love to uplaod them to here, but there are so many, so I will link for now. In order of being seen Phisigs79 Chips tanks Dhochs tank
  13. Try a farm store in the irrigation sections Ive seen a few store with them down in central VA.
  14. can i please get pricing on the clam and the elegance coral and possible closer shot of what they look like?
  15. best i can do without owning the particular light itself is to link you to the leds they are using. very nice leds, but very expensive and not easy to get http://www.solarisled.com/FAQTechnical/5MM...60/Default.aspx is the led they are using http://www.lumileds.com/ is the phillips site. the leds are the real deal, incredible power, but they do not list any PAR values. hence my reluctance to try them.
  16. saw this light at IMAC. was interesting, but they have switched the setup now to higher output leds and one led per tube . the MH it was next to at imac had a standard reflector but nothing really crazy. and the tank was an acrylic 12 inch deep frag tank, so not realyl a good representation of the penetration power. it was a very nice light, but just too many questions abound at this point for me. also to build it the way they did originally, with clusters of leds in one screw on cap, the leds along for a 48" fixture were 400 bucks. i did some DIY pricing to see what could be done against that 1500 dollar price tag :P
  17. im interested in the 4" clam and the elegance coral. got any idea on prices?
  18. if you are looking for the right wavelength leds and extreme brightness the guys at dragonmodz.net carry most ll the colors and are actually building me a crazy set of moonlights. normally they do PC stuff, but i do recomend them for buying leds and their guides etc.
  19. right bob..... I mostly do predator training and such. alot of fun. someone pays me to keep their fish, get them big and eating the right diet (usually 6"+) then i put it in their display tank and start all over. until now i really havent had a set tank with any inhabitants that stayed. but ive got a few pics of the old systems and such. Ill yank them off tpf and get them up here tomorrow or something. as for knowledge dosing idk, im no anthony calfo or Bob fenner, i just like to think i know just enough to get in serious trouble LOL
  20. Hi, Im Justin, you can all thank (or hate :P) Ybenormal for getting me in here and paying the 20 to join. I dont live in Dc, im actually 3 hours south, but i drive to DC quite a bit, and being that there is no club in my area, it certinly is nice to have a group to connect with. I am definatly not new to the scene, been at this for about 11 years, done the usual stints in LFS 's and such, and I administrate thepufferforum.com, am a staffer at WWm when time permits etc. Hopefully ill be able to help some and learn a few new tricks myself. Be seeing you all around for sure.
  21. Well best thing I can tell you on this choice comes to what you wish to keep. metal halide is a great choice if you want a mixed sps lps and softie style tank as you have high light areas and dimmer areas, of the tank. T5 lighting being linear does not have this effect at all and so you have to shade corals sometimes to prevent bleaching. also certain t5 bulbs specifically the GE dalylight are extremely powerful, enough so that 2 bulbs over your 90 can bleach most of the lower light loving corals easily. Mh you mount higher, and while they do produce heat, it is not always an issue especially with ony 2x 150 watt over that 90. If i was to decide on MH, id go at least a 2x 250w and ensure that i get the best reflectors i can afford period. If you already love T5 though, stick with it. only thing T5 doesnt provide is the point source shimmer effect on the water.
