  1. Gee thanks all. But it's really all trial and error. Now don't get me wrong, I've had freshwater tanks for, well, probably longer than most of you have been alive. But this reef tank is a new endevor. I read, every night..and then some hours during the day. And I understand 1/2 of it 1/2 the time. So I read more and eventually it sinks in. If it wasn't for boards like this, rc and pufferforum, I'd be lost. Thanks again..loco
  2. Some older pics, but basically my set up, I've added a few sps frags, not sure my tank will support them, so going slow with them: Full tank shot: Left side: (can't find the right side pic) Hitchhiker, I call him the "creature from the sea". I was having a hair algae problem. Caught him in my fuge, put him in my main tank. Hair algae is almost all gone. But so is some of my zoos and coraline algae. I think he knows I'm trying to catch him to put him in my fuge again..he's not cooperating Leather coral: Candy cane: (see, photobucket and loco have this constant battle with sizing!) Branching Hammer that broke off into three separate pieces. I super glued them back on the skeleton. Not bad for a glue job! My Crocea clam, I'm not real happy with it's color: Sponge and tubatraea: Night shot of my open brain: Cats Paw? I think...... Keyna Tree, I have lots of babies if anyone wants to trade... Star Polyps: I can frag these also if anyone is interested: Teddy bear crab hitchhiker I've had for over a year now. I've tried to catch him, finally gave up, if I keep him fed he's a good boy...so far: One of the few impulse buys I've done: Achilles Tang. I know, I know, stupid of me. But he was eating at BRK and he was so beautiful. I've had him over 2 months. We have ich about 3x a week, so far, my cleaner shrimp have been doing their job. We've been ich free for about a week now...yipeee! That's about it. I've been reefing about 15 mths. I still surf the boards constantly. I'm adding an 18" canopy to put the MH pendants, some actinics and moonlights in. Am I the only mom that is getting reef lighting equipment for mothers day? PS I'm a terrible speller, does Wamas not have spell check?
  3. Thanks dbartco. I use photobucket for other sites, but I have a problem with sizing... It's just nice to know there is a good reason, and not just "unresponsive" behavior. Don't want to sound like a whiner (I leave that up to my 4 kids). A side note to all. I went to BRK last week. Picked up a T5 retro kit for my new canopy actinics I'm planning and a 20$ frag. Bryone WAS GREAT, THANKS! Also saw some blue slate at the nursery attached to BRK, it was kinda funny......it was a one stop shop! OH, and one more thing. When do I get to see Anton's set up?
  4. Thank you Jake! I'll try to contact them. It's just a tad discouraging...in my cichlid days I was a member of PVAS, they were very responsive (how I got to know of Larry Grenier). I'll post pics of my reef as soon as I can. I also have some Kenya trees and xenia for trade or sale, but hesitate to post until I can get pics up!
  5. ROFLMAO, I LOVE U LARRY! Gave Bob some keyna trees for you today!
  6. 15 views and noone can help?
  7. I finally joined Wamas. Paid via paypal on 3/25. Recieved my card. I wanted to introduce myself and post some pics of my reef ..so I applied for a password for the gallery. I never received a reply. I reapplied, SEVEN times. I still can't post pics to the gallery. Can anyone help me get a password so I can post some pics?
  8. Tell me about it. Since I've been adding calcuim several times a week, all it wants to do is grow on my FRONT glass!! My overflows are getting covered nicely tho..........
  9. I have been to BRK once. John was very nice, his dry goods are top quality, and I bought an achilles tang from him that is still alive and well in my tank 6 weeks later (imagine that). I will go back when I am in need of something. I agree that all the above vendors are not as "personable and caring"; with ONE expception. David, the owner of Centreville Aquarium is very personable, and tho he is out to make a living, he is caring also. Until I stumbled around BRK, I would only buy my live goods from Centreville Aquarium. At least now I have a choice. BTW, John, been meaning to call you about some T5 retrofits.
  10. Absolutley, 100% necessary, 20% weekly water changes on my reef, 50% weekly water changes on the other four tanks....well, maybe I skip a week on the reef, but never go 2 weeks. And I never skip on my freshwater (discus and puffers....).
  11. Ok, sounds to me like fans are the key here. Where does everyone position their fans? I wanted to place four fans on front of canopy, two above and two below MH's, drawing the air into the canopy blowing towards the open back, but then would I need "holes" in front of canopy to draw in the air? I would have holes on sides and top of tank for heat escape also. This DIY stuff is brand new to me. I'm not a techie, I'm just a woman that loves this hobby. My tanks are located in my home office, any suggestions on brands of fans?? Ice cap puts out 4" fans, but reading threads, I see a lot of people replace those with fans from radio shack. I want the heat to escape, but don't need a tsunami... :eek1:
  12. I have a 120g open top reef, with two mag9.5 pumps, 32W PC retrofit over my fuge (on at night when MH are off) and TWO 250W HQI MH mini pendants over my tank. I miss my actinics and moon lights. I'm considering putting a canopy over my tank. I have my heaters set at 78 degrees, it seems after the MH are on for 10 hrs, the temp goes up to 80 degrees, by morning, it's down to 78 degrees. The MH are 10 inches from my waters surface and of course have a glass uv shield on them. There are NO fans blowing on the water
  13. You don't have to go there. I order from thatpetplace online all the time. Great prices, and shipping is not bad at all. If you put in an order over the weekend, it's here by Tues! s
  14. Check this out: http://www.ecotechmarine.com/products/vort...tteryBackup.htm and then the long thread on reefcentral: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...threadid=672444 I'm considering one for my 120G, but not sure if it's "too much" for a 4ft tank....
  15. I'm sorry, done. I'm in Manassas, and am willing to meet at Centreville Aquarium if anyone is interested. I'm new to Wamas, paid last week, and waiting for my member card so I can post on gallery and introduce myself.........
  16. I put in an order from an on line aquarium food company and they sent me the wrong items. Now I have more of this I will use in a year. I am willing to sell the Liquid Life Bio Plankton and Marine Plankton 32ml bottles each (it comes packaged together) for $20.00. My LFS sells this for $38.99. Anyone in the Manassas, Virginia area email or pm me and we'll work out pick up arrangements (needs to stay frozen). Below is the link describing the product...I have two sets available... http://www.liquidlifeusa.com/Products/Products.html Thanks! loco and can someone tell me what a BB member is? I paid for my wemas membership but it still says bb under my name?
