Did it shatter into small chunks like tempered or were there shards and big pieces like regular glass? You could probably get a replacement from any glass shop, but it would be good to know what kind of glass they need to use to cut a replacement.
Big and small pieces :(
Wasnt sure if there was some UV Coated glass or something that is needed.
-
So I was messing around with my tank and splashed water onto my pendant by accident and BANG! glass shattered all over and into the tank.
Question is, do I need some special glass? or can I just goto a glass shop and ask them to cut me the same size to replace?
-
or use a sheet of vinyl. Comes in different colors and you can cut to fit without all the mess of painting. Plus if you ever decide you want to change the color, you can rip off the vinyl and apply another color. Assuming you have easy access to the rear of the tank.

My two are model citizens.

It's FedEx's fault. The seller SHOULD take out insurance for this stuff. At minimum he could file a claim for $100 of he didnt buy extra insurance.

I have many days where I get basically zero from the sun. So the low par from the MH are enough to keep most corals happy. My guess is that with some always-on T5 supplements to act as the baseline PAR, the single MH will be enough.
Magnetic1, if you try this and find it doesn't work out for you, I'll buy the light mover from you assuming you get the agramover model with the built-in outlet box. That way you're only out the cost of the unistrut.
I may decide to, Ill need to lay it out in my head and see how this will look.
-
If you add a pair of T5 at each end (4x36 total) I doubt you would have to run the MH more than 10-12h/day.
Wife approval and aesthetic rating are quite important. I think the mover is a pretty solid piece of equipment though, basically just a low RPM AC gearmotor. Even if it stuck in one place, I doubt it would do much damage.
I think it is a worthwhile experiment and that the whole lightmover concept is underrated in the hobby. You could do what I did with the streams attached to the lightmover; make a plastic brace that hangs down along the back edge of the tank to hold a nanostream or similar. If you hide it properly you could get the benefit of wavemaking from the lightmover and possibly get rid of some powerheads in your display. Not having seen your setup I don't know if this is possible but worth looking into. I think it would look best with a full canopy to hide the mover.
i guess I could always build another canopy. Just needs to be taller. Not sure the powerhead idea would work sine the center braces of the tank would get in the way?

I use light movers in my greenhouse over my sps tub and am happy with it's performance. 1x250w will be enough for you. I have 2x400w over a 6'x10' tank (travels the 10' length). I agree that if you use the T5 as continuous light, you will get a better visual effect. DFS uses light movers too, as do many other coral farm operations. If the store in MN couldn't keep sps happy with a 400w moving over just 4' of tank, then it was something other than the light.
Try agramover.com for a well made motor, it uses standard unistrut for a track which you can buy at home depot. I use aluminum unistrut from mcmaster.com though, so it doesn't rust.
Thanks Justin, I might try it.
Right now Im going SPS, but I have LPS in tank. The tank has (4) 36" T5s used for actinic lighting in the canopy. If I did this, the track would have to be attached onto the canopy and raised up. The ceiling is kinda high where the tank is so I dont know about mounting to the ceiling and having it hang down so far. Actually, I think the end result in all this will be my wife telling me Ive made her kitchen look messy resulting in me having to revert back to my old setup

Im thinking about replacing my (3) 250W Metal Halide over my 125G (6ft) tank with a single pendant on a light track.
Will one pendant running back and forth for 8 hours be enough lighting? It takes 20 min to go 6 feet, so every hour it goes back and forth 3 times.
If it is enough, this would be cutting some of my electric bill and lower the heat in summer, which in turn would also lower my chiller use.
I figure I'd save about $20-25 per month on electric bill by ditching 500W worth of lighting, not including chiller use.
What are your thoughts?

Stomatella maybe?... good for the tank. I used to have them, but havent seen in a while

Too bad my Purple Tand would kill it in about 1 hour.
-
I had one destroy a colony once. Find his sleeping spot and nab him at night.
-
I have some XM 15k, Ushio 14K DE 250W I could donate to this cause.
-
darn, that is cheap! I just placed an order w/ Hellolights too! At least they will price match my prior order.
-
darnit.. mine went missing today. Saw him in the morning, but now gone. Usually when it is feeding time he is out. Looked all around and in the overflows/sump and nothin :( Hopefully he is just hiding somewhere.
-
not to add to your troubles but your RBTA is bleached. Needs some TLC too. try feeding it sliver sides until it colors back up.
I recommend doing a red bug treatment twice to kill em all.
Good luck
Naw, RBTA is ok. It looks bleached caus it just split. When my RBTA split, they hide under the rock for almost a month it seems. They turn bright pink during that time, but they slowly change back to rose color
Havent started the Interceptor treatment yet. Im actually going to treat outside the display tank. I have a frag tank coming soon which I will setup, then move all the Acros to. Then treat with Interceptor there.
How long does the display tank have to go for without acros before the red bugs die off?

I had that problem once. If you let any gas stay in the carb for more than a month without running it, you're screwed. Take the carb apart and clean it really well. I did that and mine started right up. Now I have a valve on the fuel line and every spring I shut off the valve and let it burn all the remaining fuel in the fuel line. Haven't had a problem since.
good luck
I was in the process of taking it apart, but one of the knobs wont come off and without the knob off, I cant get to the dang carb! After blowing a heater on it for 30 min, it fired up for a good 5-10 secs before cutting off. Now I cant get it restarted again. I'll try again in the morning I guess.
-
Crap... generator starts fine, but snowblower wont. :(
I put a new spark plug in, still nothing. Im thinking maybe I flooded it. I'll try draining the carb and letting it sit some next.
-
I love how they say... it depends on the track of the storm. But we wont know until sometime Sat. LMAO.
Seriously, best job there is has got to be a weatherman. You get paid for spewing random forecasts and are not accountable if you are wrong or you are right.
-
Was planning on firing up the snowblower and generator tomorrow too. Thanks for the reminder!
For those who use 12V auto batteries and inverters as backups, double check those are fully charged as well.

7x7 with a 20" bulb??
Ive seen small T5 pendants before, but cant find it now for the life of me. They looked to be about 1/4 the length of your typical T5 bulb.
Im about to setup a 16x16x8 frag tank and will prolly use a 250W MH Pendant. Or whatever I can find used for cheap
Where to get replacement pendant glass?
in General Discussion
it is a Sunlight Supply Reef Optix 3. From google-ing, it looks like replacement glass is about $15. I was just hoping to just drive up to one of the many glass shops on Gude Dr and ask for UV Tempered glass in 3/16".
