Sounds like you have a finicky eater. Try dosing the algae in garlic before giving it to your tangs. It works great when fishing.

I had anemones for over a year, and they all are doing great. I feed them flakes, silversides, and chunks of scallops now and then. I fyou are interested in one or two let me know 'cause I'm looking to give them away for space for my new softies.

That's about right. You are looking at $50 estimated.

Another idea will be to compare PC and MH. Perhaps the PC's are less expensive than MH. Altough I been told that for the type of coral you are interested PC's may not be sufficient.

Let me know how the Coral Banded does in your tank. I had one for 8 month and all suddenly it died. scry]] Still puzzles me why. I missed him but after second thoughts he was more for show than for having a function in the tank.

It's basically a simple circuit interface. The thermostat must have a relay (2 dry contacts) were we will hook the lights on too. When the thermostat goes over the desired temp (let's say 83) the realy will break connection and the lights will go OFF, now be carefull and don't go out running and by any relay. You need an isolation relay since the thermostat will provide you with low voltage AC/DC power and the lights work at 120 VAC. I can put a diagram together so you or your hobby (electrician) can hook it up, but we need the thermostat first and I don't know of any from the top of my head.

Think about which fish is agressive and which are compatible, add their functionality and rate them based on your like/like, then make the selection based on these criterias. For example; Purple (Magenta) Dottyback has beautiful color and entertaining to watch, but does not get along with a Wrasse or a Mandarin. The Tang will help you with algae control while the White/Yellow Fin Damsel is very agressive. The Orchid Pseudochromis is great for controlling worms, while the Clowns basically don't help to clean but they are cute to watch. I whish I knew these before I bought some of mine, I went for "how preatty" instead of how they match with others in my tank and corals.

That is exactly what I got in my tank, and I'm keeping it under control with a Mandarin Dragonet and a 6 line Wrasse. They look cool though when they open.

Hi everyone.
During our Sprin meeting I filled out the form to be included in tank tour. I'm available late June or early July. Please match with someone in Reston, Chantilly, Burke, Oakton, Sterling or in same Herndon area, it will be great !.

That is a great suggestion. Definitely, we all know advertising cost money and your suggestion can be measured based on ratio of “responses-to-adds” posted, and determine if the add pays off. Also can be used to determined best marketing approaches to recruit new members. Just another thought!

I have several times. Deliveries are next day by 9:00AM. they ship out free shipping for orders over $75, but they charge $4.95 for handling that is still not a bad deal. All specimens bought from them are doing great so far (8 month), and they provide good customer service. I have no problems with their orders.

When I first set up my 55 tank I had the same question and received the following answer: "If you use live rock at a rate of 1 to 1 1/2 pounds per gal of water, the live rock will be your bio filtration therefore you do not need a bio wheel. The bio wheel will increase the nitrite in your tank" then I was told to: "use a skimmer for chemical filtration and use the carbon once a week for 12 hours, and once removed then add essential elements to the tank". I have a Prizm that comes with a canister for carbon and I use it once a week for 12 hours, every two weeks, just to clean the water between water changes. If you need more info, research the web for skimmer Vs bio wheels like i did before venturing into buying the equipment and you will find few topics of using and not using carbon with your skimmer and the need for bio-filtration without bio-wheels. Good Luck.

I'm looking for Zoanthids all over and can't find them. Are they been held to increase demand and pricing? Anyone knows where I can find Zoo's, not the regular ones we all see at the local stores, but the "pink, blue, purple, neon, types? How much should I expect to pay for let say a 40 polyp Zoo?

Dad was in the Navy stationed in Puerto Rico, nice place to SCUBA by the way. It has a natural reef coral santuarium in the north shore near San Juan, and we "hop" from island to island and visited almost all except for three, Trinidad, Aruba and Barlovento. Although I was raised mainly in Puerto Rico I consider myself from the all over Carribean, and proud of it. Will love to go back when retired.

I was raised in the Caribbeans and everyone calls me Jake. So 1 + 1 = 2 or something like that I think...
What's a good "tank-cruising fish" for a 55?
in General Discussion
Hi Amber
Yellow Tang (small) is always on the move, bright yellow color and likes to eat algae. The 6 or 8 line Wrasse are colorful and fun to watch, also like to come in and out of the rocks and keep busy all day swimming the lenght of the tank.
A yellow tail blue damsel (small) is a nice vivid color although 50% is in the rocks and the other 50% is searching the areas.
The above are inexpensive and colorful fish I will keep in my 55 gal set up.
