I NEED ADVICE: If I plan to transfer half of my rocks and all the Marine Pure brick over to the new tank from the old one, can I transfer all the fish over at once? I also have rocks (been cycling in a tub for 3 weeks) to add to the new tank. Please advise...any help appreciated!

Here's the mandarin . He seems to be doing good and looks healthy. Little sausage.
Beautiful fish!

What do you guys think of this company? Their phyto can be frozen and last for a while. From Canada.

I use http://www.jayfish.net
He’s also on Facebook
There’s also ReefPi. There’s an extensive thread on Reef2Reef as well as a website.

Thank you! I'm excited to try. What is your recommendation?

Hello,
I recently purchased a raspberry pi and was seeing if anyone in the area have tried to use it to automate their tank. Just seems like a fun project to try.

Has anyone subscribed to this product before?

What are you thoughts on it?

Aiptasia X is basically slightly tinted kalk paste. I've used it (and kalk paste, vinegar, lemon juice, etc.) in the past. It works by basically chemically burning the flesh of the Aiptasia anemone. However, it's important to shake the bottle up before use and to:
1) Turn off all flow in the tank so the paste can sit in place.
2) Cover the Aiptasia generously and COMPLETELY.
3) Leave the paste in place for 15-20 minutes with the flow off so you're sure that it has plenty of time to kill off the anemone. After that, you can turn the flow back on.
Yes. The instruction were followed.
I've never used that stuff. But did get a peppermint shrimp that took care of the aptasia that had popped up on a frag of Acan that I had put in my tank. I haven't seen any aptasia since.
Thank you. I might have to see about getting one.

I have one aiptasia that popped up a couple of weeks ago. I used the Red Sea Aiptasia X and it became 4 of them in the same spot. I tried using it again and guess what? I have a bunch of them! Is anyone else having the same problem or do I have a bad bottle of this product????

Hello! I am very close to where you are at. Let me know if you need anything. I have a lot of stuff that you can use/borrow if needed. Also have ammonium chloride solution left (dr. tims aquatics) if you need it to start your tank later.

Have you considered using a phytoplankton paste instead of starting another culture? A long while back, dbartco used to raise rotifers and did so (ultimately) using paste which simplified things quite a bit for him. One source is Reed Mariculture (one of our sponsors) and their "Instant Algae" products.
This is great ... Thanks! Have you tried this product? I am looking at the Tetraselmis 3600.

Hello,
I use Instant Ocean and it has been working pretty well for me. This brand is sold at almost any fish/pet stores. Petsmart will have really good deals at time and some online store also have great sales with free shipping.

I had good luck catching him using a fish trap and a mirror. I just put a small mirror in the back of the trap and he goes right in. Took 10 min. I have a trap if you would like to borrow it. In glen burnie, md.

I saw such great reviews on this item and had to get one. Can I keep it in the tank while not in use or is that not advisable because of the metal blade?

I have chemiclean if you want to try it out. I'm in Glen Burnie.

FWIW, I have a Biota mandarin in a 12g with no refugium and it is growing pretty quickly and always looking very well fed. When it first came I'm from liveaquaria, it was quite emaciated and very small (<1") though. For the first several months I was hatching artemia a couple times a week and feeding them every day alongside a wide variety of small frozen foods (cyclopeeze, R.O.E, "reef plankton", tobiko, etc.). I've now weaned off of the artemia and am feeding entirely frozen once a day. I think the small size of my tank actually helps with feeding frozen because I can create a high density of food pretty easily. It may be harder to create such conditions in a larger tank. Also, the Biota mandarins come in so small that you might have difficulty finding them even in a 45g until they grow out a bit. It's hard to target feed them if you can't find them easily in the tank.
There are also a couple of BTAs in the tank and the mandarin doesn't have any trouble picking at the rocks right around them.
Awesome! Thank you! I have an old 14 gallon biocube that might be perfect. I might try to keep the mandarin in there until I can get them healthier and used to eating frozen. How often do you feed a day?
-
From the look of it, I might just wait until I can get a bigger tank for the mandarin. Thank you everyone.

Thank you for all your help. I did not plan to add any of these items as of yet. These are just plans that I have in my head and just want to make sure everything is "good" before finalizing the plans. I actually did consider the biota mandarin and actually have tried raising copepods in a 10 gallon tank to feed them (not much luck so far). I get the tisbe from HOT and feed them phyto, but it has been months and I don't see any babies. Anyone has luck? I don't have a refugium.

Hello,
I need some advice. I am starting a tank mainly for anemones and some fish. I tried looking for information regarding having the mandarin with anemones and cannot seem to get a straight answer. Is it wise to have a pair in a tank with about 4 anemones? This is a 45 gallon (Red Sea Max E-170).
Thank you.

Thank you everyone! I found a trap. Please close.

Like a lot of beginners, I got some damsels when I started the hobby. They are quite annoying right now and attacking some new fish. Does anyone near by have a fish trap I can borrow/rent? Or have a good way to get them out (without having to take out all the rocks)? Any advice is much appreciated.

Welcome to the group. We are here to help. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. There is a wealth of knowledge in this group. Reef keeping will/may seem overwhelming in the begining. You will be learning about tank cycling, equipment, chemistry, and so much more. We are here to assist.
Thanks!

Spend more time with it. I've had a variety of systems over the years. No sump; with sump; AIO; Reef-ready; drilled; etc. The flexibility (especially with equipment) of one built up from scratch is a great benefit to me and might, with more experience, be for you as well.
I am definitely not handy by any mean. I just love the saltwater system (fish, corals, etc.).
Thoughts on sand sifters
in General Discussion
I have bot the diamond goby and the sand sifting starfish. I personally do not think the starfish does much to "sift" the sand. The diamond goby is probably the best thing ever. You just can't put any corals on the sand since they tend to make mounds of sand at certain spot. He does keep the sand really clean. My diamond goby eats frozen and pellets so I don't think they absolutely need "critters" in the sand. I made sure he ate frozen at the store before I brought him home. There is literally no area in the tank that he does not go through and clean.
