  1. Hi all. I'm moving soon to a new house, but it has well water and septic tank. Does anyone have experience with how they do water changes? I'm thinking that salt water down the drain would be a bad thing for the microbes in a septic tank. I'm also thinking of using the waste from an RO system be a rain/garden water so that it doesn't fill the septic tank too soon. If anyone has any insight, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Shane

  2. Yes, sorry. The center pink overflow going to the frag tank (small tank on left) is the issue. Very basic drawing but elevations are pretty accurate.

The tanks been in this configuration for about 9 months, but this only started like 2 months ago.

Could be a bubble in the elbow. Should I have done 45s instead of 90? Any recommendations to remove the bubble?

  3. Hi all,

I'm having an issue with slow flow into my frag tank. Hopefully the picture shows up clear enough. I'm draining one side of the display (durso setup) into the frag tank, with a shadow overflow from the frag back to the sump. I'm having slow flow from the durso so much, that the water level in that side of the overflow is the same level as my display. Even if I turn off the return pump, there's barely any flow to drain. I would think that gravity drain should be quicker than ~1gph. Yes, it's that slow. The other overflow (direct drain to sump) is working fine. My first step to remedy was to change the air line in case of any blockage, as it's been submerged in water for a while.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I thought about changing the setup again to have two return pumps in the sump, but I'm looking to avoid that if possible. Thanks!

  4. Lol it kind of looks like a flower. But I'd move it up in the tank. Wants more light. I think i see a budding second!

It does! Yea it's now in the middle of the tank, still just as stretched for 3 days. Taking it nice and slow, gotta keep this thing! I can't be the first to lose :P the second is fine, but not the first! Maybe telegraham will lose first ;)

  5. Youre lucky you found it. I had one do that once and thought it was a goner. Found a colony like a month later.

Great point! If that's the case, I wouldn't win, even if it grew. I might not be able to take monthly pics if I couldn't find it!

I actually found it since my lights were in actinic and there was a fluorescence floating around the sandbed.

  6. My tank is a 120 with now 4 kessil 360we controlled by apex. It's about 2 years old, but I finally got it stable since I just added the fourth light 2 months ago. I've been slow and steady, hopefully getting more corals now that I'm stable. I ATO with mrs wages kalkwasser, and occasionally dose NOPOX. I'm trying to reduce that though and just go water changes every 7-10 days. I feed frozen mysis daily, a chocolate chip star every 2 weeks (for the harlequin I got from telegraham), and nori maybe every two weeks. Also, I coral feed with reefroids once a week.

Are we putting water parameters in this post?

    Nitrate: 5

    Phosphate: 0.07

    Alk: 8.5-9

    Calcium: 450

    Mag: 1320

    Ph: 8.1-8.3

Flow: 5000 gph using two wav pumps (gonna find a dead spot for this zoa)

Lighting: max intensity is 28% for 1 hour. Still rising slowly but now getting growth.

Willing to learn to improve. I designed this to be SPS tank, but I'm still learning that trade. LPS I'm a pro. Can't kill that stuff.
