  2. Pressure could make it blowout. Not worth the risk IMO. Can do a DIY sump cheap

  3. The problem with silicone is it need a few days to cure. Even if it says dries in 12 hours, it needs days to be reef safe. Even then it would just be a patch and should be replaced.

If I were closer I would try and help

ok thank you for your feedback. I will now try and find someone local who may have a extra sump or something.

  4. No, doesn't look like it's repairable. Well it is but you would have to replace the broken glass.

    Good luck

thank you I was just going to try and just load that side up with silicone. Could that possibly work?

  6. 3 ft. long is a little short. I'm being a bit of a hypocrite since I kept one in the equivalent of a 40B for nearly a year, but ended up rehoming it to a much larger tank because he started to swim back and forth across the glass in apparent boredom for hours. They really shouldn't be in anything smaller than a 4 ft tank, imo and based on my experience with having one. They get relatively large and are really active and friendly once they're comfortable (mine would eat from my hand and hang out on whatever side of the tank I was on, whether he was hungry or not). If you do decide to get one, read Paul B's primer on butterflyfish, which was really helpful in selecting a healthy one, and make sure you're ready to try a bunch of different foods to get it to eat, since they can be annoyingly picky, and often die due to malnourishment. Mine wouldn't touch pellets, would pick at mysis but not fill himself up (same with brine shrimp), but went crazy for LRS reef frenzy. Before trying reef frenzy, I'd also leave an opened clam at the bottom of the tank twice a week for him to pick on to get him eating, which is probably the only reason he survived initially. In other words, unless you're willing to put in some effort to get a butteflyfish the right nutrition, you're going to have a bad time.

thank you so much as this was extremely helpful. I will look more into them and get some more research on them to fully commit. So at this moment I do plan to get one but I'll wait until my tank is established and I have a week or so of good time to spend finding the right food for him! Thanks again and I'll let you know what I end up doing it if I have any more questions.

  7. When I upgraded to a 29g, I took all the old sand in a pail, added fresh mixed salt water, stirred it and it turned an ugly, cloudy gray color. I poured off the muddy gray water and added more and repeated until the water was clear. Detritus does build up in the sand and can cause problems. If you don't want to break down your tank you can try stirring up small sections of the sand to release detritus while running good filtration then wait a few days, test for trates and stir another section. I've used this method a lot and it helped.

what sort of problems can not cleaning sand enough be?

  8. Have there been any recent changes (new cleaning lady/guy, kids feeding the aquarium, foreign objects dropped in, etc.)? New additive (two part, kalkwasser, etc.)? Lighting changed? If T5s, bulbs replaced? Intensities changed? How about pH? Alkalinity?

In your first pic, it may be as simple as not getting enough light (shadowed perhaps). The tips of the SPS look to be quite healthy while it progressively gets worse toward the base. With water quality issues, I would expect the tips to show problems first. How is the water flow down there?

Forgot to mention water flow is pretty good, it's not a lot but it's not nothing.

  9. Can you tell us more about your tank? Size? Lights? Parameters? Corals that are doing well?

It's a 38 gallon innovative marine AIO with the innovative marine skiilightt led and IM skimmer. All my parameters are perfect and I've had all the corals for a few months and have been doing great.

The corals that are doing fine are frogspawn, GSP and another small polyp coral( i forget the name)

  10. Hi I'm new to the forums and relatively new to reef keeping. I've been in the hobby for about two years now and have been keeping coral for about 6 months. I'm having an ongoing problem with some of my corals closing and it's slowing gotten worse. Decided to turn to the forums for help.

Most of the corals are doing fine but a few stopped opening and my gal eat seems to be bleaching. a90e8ca3d59e5e4f26ddddc152ea059a.jpg

I also have a torch that I can send a picture of later that is having the same problem but it's on and off. Hope you guys can help because I don't know what to do.
