  1. I agree with this based on the overflow issue alone, 40 breeder is not leaving you any wiggle room.

Also, does your wife always wear a tu-tu?

That's my 7 year old kid...

  2. Went with a red bottom plasti dip style sump. I made my own sock holder and dividers with scrap acrylic. So my sump ended up cosing me less than $100 bucks. I have a 40 breeder and a 20 high for frags .faabf4e8ad30fe8aca2c50cf7f2f991c.jpgdc8c8170c70bd2426c2fda5b4f448e71.jpg52be527c22672ec1c8c12bda358bfec3.jpg

  3. Don't sweat it . Wait until her Girlfriends come around and she takes all the credit. That is what mine does. In addition to buying Red bottoms Hey I just noticed there are no ventilation ports or fans for the sump area. You may want to address that issue, and where do you plan to place all your controllers and power packs ?

Yeah I want to move mount and plumb, then cut holes last . I would hate to cut a fan hole then end up changing my mind on placement.

  4. Now please note at this point my wife has came to me and said that it looks stupid and nothing like the picture she had made up....hmmm?

I didn't think so but there is generally no point in arguing, so moving forward.

  5. So I used an epoxy paint and sealed all the seams in the sump area , I did this with my last stand and it would hold water with no issues for days. ( its unfortunate that I know that). Then the stand got multiple coats of oil based paint after the 3 coats of kilz oil based primer.a0e95c146d4c528f56451e23e0d89aed.jpg479c838e78aa58bac680f5f8c7f229db.jpgffe24d819d982d840a014f176c6b3d5e.jpg

  6. What are you putting in instead of carpet?

It's a concrete basement floor so we are going with Shaw 100% waterproof florte flooring.

  7. This will be the home for the new tank ,replacing the 150 gallon . Along with the deal the carpet gets replaced per my wifes demand. The fish room that consists of a 65 gallon frag tank, 40 breeder refugium, and a 40 sump and all the equipment will be condensed to fit under the new stand . I haven't really used the frag tank, it just turned into another reef . I had all that plumbed together with the 150 through the wall.

  8. So I test fitted the canopy and and all is well could use a little trimming at this point but its good enough for now. I ended up using Masonite and finished it with drywall compound on the out side.

  9. At this point I had the cabinets and book shelves built from scratch and started on the canopy, which is the toughest part because of the curve. We wanted a simple look so I recessed the doors and used a clean modern trim with shaker style doors. 33392eece259fe5882604a5940faf2d6.jpg500e6dc8ffbbc4ce9e360ce2b2c94555.jpg84565ab3b7d7fa150888d53d13afc139.jpge1553b82e695c866d32311fdf13c3b0c.jpg

  10. So here is my result of skinning the stand . I used 3/4/inch birch on all finished surfaces and double layered the top so the tank sits down in the plywood to cover the 1 inch acrylic bottom.

  11. And so the build began with me opting to make the stand rectangle instead of curved like the tank. I once owned a flat back hex and while I loved the tank ,I hated the stand because of the limited height, odd angles and dimensions. I opted to make this stand out if 2*6 to carry the load and to minimize the bracing. Also made the stand 38" tall so I don't have to bend over to look in. c3b11a427f496bf0b5e7b45b170eb4dc.jpgf6b108ba939af68e0c8d273ba2679c5b.jpg

  12. I figured I would take the time to repost my tank build on wamas being that i picked up the tank from a wamas vendor . I couldn't pass up the deal I got on this tank and I've always admired bow front tanks. So it begins the upgrade from my 150 gallon to this 285 gallon bow front . I affectionately call this tank "The Sickness" because I feel this hobby is an addiction I am afflicted with.

  13. +1 on the lack of apex integration, I think my vectra l1 is OK, but it's weak in comparison to my old dc12000. Yeah it would have failed in a year or 2 but I could buy 5 for the price of 1 . I bet 5 outlast my vectra, being the controller failed on my L1 day 2 of use.
