I am starting to agree with you on the test kits. I have purchased Salifert test kits from brs and hopefully will be here this week to check the testing. I never have had any problems with Red Sea Pro Salt, is there a better salt mix out there. I have always thought it was what works for you.

I haven't tested the salt yet and will later today hopefully as long as things go well here at home being the 4th and all. The Red Sea test is similar but the more drops you use the less your numbers are Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

After 2 year of my tank being up and running I slowly did the bad thing and get lazy. I know this wasn't the smartest thing in the world. Well my tank ended up crashing. I decided to start from scratch. I cleaned the sump and tank and added new sand and rock. I re-did the plumbing and got the system up and running. No fish have been added as they are in the QT. My tank is cycled and now started testing the Mag, Cal, and Alk levels because I would like to have corals back in the tank at some point in the future. While I was testing I noticed that my Mag, Cal, and Alk levels are so low that they are unable to give a reading using my red sea test kits. I have tested multiple times of the day and multiple days. I want to raise my levels up, but my question is....if I have no fish or corals in the tank could I dose more than the 100ppm dose? or do I still have raise the levels slowly?

I went to circle glass on route 29 in Fairfax city to get the glass for the baffles cut. They did an awesome job. Cost me for 4 glass panels 40 dollars.

Thank you all for the input. I went with 1/4 in glass. Local store is cutting it for me and I'm buying there glass. For 4 things of glass it's not too bad and I don't have to sand it. I have the GE I ready when I go pick them up

Look up on you tube. DIY king then go to the make your own chiller video. It's a really great way to safe money if you think you could do it

So I am making a sump. I am using my 40 gallon breeder. I need to make baffles, what thickness do I need to make them. Also could I use acrylic or do I need to stay with glass since it's a glass aquarium?

So I don't know where to put this post so I'm going to try here. As you know I have to move out at the end this month (unplanned). I have been told that everything must come off the walls and all holes patched up or no security deposit back. My Radeon light is being held up from the ceiling. I need to take it down but need a back of the tank type of hanging kit. I asked some store friends if they could let me borrow one for a few weeks but they were unable to. So I am asking anyone here if they are able to let me borrow one for a Radeon gen 3 for a few weeks (until I put up the one I have at the other house)? I don't currently have the money to buy one right now. I need to wait until the move to make sure we have money for the new place. If you are able to help please let me know. Thank you.

I changed my schedule on my lights to be on only 10 hours during the day and decreased the overall to 35%. hopefully this is the problem. Does anyone else have a suggestion? I still have some dieing coral in my tank that I would rather not die :(
