  1. what does it taste like? Ceriths are bitter, whelks are tasty. Easy ID.

hahaha. I am thinking its a cerith with a growth after more inspection. It seemed the whelks had a larger opening in the shell for the snail.

  2. Utoh, that's not good  ;)

80 gallons is 302 liters, 5mg per liter would make it 1510mgs/200 mgs per capsule or 7.5 capsules....Where am I wrong?  I def don't want to overdose my tank!

The guys on r2r use 5mg per liter. The person in this thread is doing 5mg per gallon and has had success.

  3. That's great to hear. Are you treating for Bryopsis or hair algae or both?

I'm hoping to treat Bryopsis and hair algae. I have some bubble algae too so we will see if it works with that. In the FAQ section it said they dont know if it treats it or not being most people are also using other methods to attach BA. I am not so I figured my tank would be a good test case. Currently no corals so my tank is a good test case I think.

  4. 5mg/gallon is 1/4 of the original dosage and half of the dosage that others were experimenting with. However, given the newness of the technique, 1/4 dosage could be considered experimental as well.

That's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure of the proper dosage, but it seems like 5mg / gal is working.

  5. I had minor issues with bryopsis in both my systems.  Mostly growing in between zoanthids and such.   I dosed fluco at about 5 mg / gal.  It worked great will no ill effects on any livestock.  Agreed it is a miracle cure for bryopsis.

I read in the r2r thread its 5mg / L not gal. Is this a typo or did you really dose so low?

  6. I know it's not a great picture. I noticed the snail on my overflow right when I was leaving the house after lunch. A fellow reefer thinks it might be a whelk but wasn't 100% sure, so I figured I'd get another opinion.

It's shell looked oddly shaped to me.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. I sorted out the rocks today (I purchased about 150 lbs of "standard" and 50 lbs of "prime cut" which is basically rock with the bottom sawed off so it sits flush) and must say I'm pretty impressed with the assortment. This is the second time I've order from Marco's Rocks and they definitely delivered the type of pieces I requested.  I'm going to load these up in the trash can for tomorrow to begin the cycle!

With all that rock, it might be fun to try your hand at chiseling some caves. I tried with mine but instead just cracked the rock in half.

  8. My thought would be that you would want some sort of light cycle minimal but some light and if you are using the dry Marco rock you will also want to either buy a bacteria culture in a bottle or you should get a small scoop of sand from someone that has an established tank.

I am not really sure because I just go ahead and aquascape and put a frozen dinner shrimp in my new aquariums with a bacteria culture.  As the bacteria becomes established the decaying shrimp is a food source.  I rarely have issues with dyno or hair algae (I say rarely because right now I am just getting over bryopsis (pure evil)).

Best of luck, I enjoy seeing your posts.

I think he said hes seeding with rock from his 90. I may be wrong though.
