  1. Hey Everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. Its been a while since I have checked in.

I recently ( TODAY ) had the pump go out on my protein skimmer. I contacted Royal Ex. since Vertex is out of business. They sent me these two recommendations :

we can offer alternative Pumps for this Skimmer Model. You can find the same Motorblock for your old Pump here: https://royalexclusiv.net/en/spare-parts/mini-red-dragon-red-dragon-r-1-bk/motor-blocks/part-motor-block-for-bubble-king-r-double-cone-130-250.html

Alternative you can also use a new Version adjustable DC Pump 60W 24V for this Skimmer: https://royalexclusiv.net/en/skimmers/red-dragon-r-x-skimmer-pumps/rd-x-skimmer-pump-for-bk-dc-250-300.html

Anyone know where i can get a compatible pump than ordering from Europe.

  2. Thanks... so yes. They are not showing up but nothing is responsive. the old EB8 is still showing up. Its not plugged in. The Heater wont shut off and the programing has it turning off at 80.5 on at 79.5 my tank is at 82 and climbing. The DOSing unit cant be recognized.

    Super frustrating.

  3. Hi Everyone,

Thought i would post/connect with a small video update of my tank. The hobby definitely has its challenges but it also can be quite rewarding when things are going well.

Thanks to all the members out there that have assisted and connected with. Richie

  4. I've seen it discussed in Julian Sprung's Algae Problem Solver Guide. But, as I recall, it's a bear to get rid of.

Have you researched use of hydrogen peroxide to combat algae? You may be able to target dip infested rock to get the upper hand and kill it off.

Yes, I have done some research, Hydrogen Peroxide is definitely not an option with this algae. ;( I'm going to get a fox face again and see what it will do.... I'm definitely at my wits end with the stuff.

  5. Thanks for the responses.

I have done the research and have been using the Mexican Turbo snails to combat this over the past year. Not sure where I picked it up.

I'm just getting tired of the cycle between the snails, algae gone, snails die, algae comes back, and I put more snails back in the tank. Its nuts.

I will try the fox face, I just saw that article on that one. Never tried it. I will probably have to fish my yellow tang out in order to put another fish into the tank.

  6. Hey Everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well. Ive been having an issue with this algae and have done a lot of research.  Everything I do .. and it keeps coming back.

Anyone out there dealing with this?

    Hit me up..

  7. Richie,

Attached is a copy of my lighting schedule which is a modified SPS AB+ schedule.  I am also running some T5 bulbs to help with shadowing and have been very happy with my results.  I would also be happy to send you the schedule if you shoot me a PM with your email.

    PM Sent.. Thanks!!!

  8. Hey Everyone,

Hope everyone is having a good week. Just curious if there are any lighting experts out there that want to assist.

I have 4 Radions XRpro30 about 10 inches off the top of the water, in a 24 inch deep tank. Please see

Richies 240 gallon build if you want to see it..

I feel like i have never been able to get the right lighting for growth. I havent invested a lot into big pieces of sps but i do have lps in the tank.. the sps i have never seem to have taken off.

I do dos.. ALK 8.9, CAL 430, Mag 1320ish.... I have recently purchased some 10dollar frags and have positioned them around the tank, but they are not looking as good as the LFS.

I downloaded the ECO tech sps/lps lighting scheme and have it set at 35% because i did manage to fry away a piece of sps..

Let me know if this makes sense,

    Richie

  9. I have a high powered laser. While it will zap Aiptasia, you have to be line-of-sight with them and anything that they may retract back into in order to really get them. They are also dangerous as they can cause retinal damage (blind you) in under a millisecond. I treat mine as a gun so it's kept away from kids and inquisitive eyes. I also keep the batteries out of it unless I need it. Biological control (which seeks and destroys, even in the places you can't see), in my opinion is a much better option or, if you can see them and get at them any number of other products will work including:

    kalk paste (e.g. Joe's Juice, Aiptasia X)

lemon juice or vinegar (inject them with a hypodermic needle)

    Majano Wand (electric current)

    Whats size is yours? 1000nw?

  10. Your tank looks great and I can't overstate how smart it was to have a removable sump in case anything goes wrong.  Which it already did.  Also Really smart to keep the bioload low and slowly build up your livestock. although it must have been excruciatingly painful to hold your buying impulses in check.  Whenever I got halfway through the stocking process I just gave in and threw in a lot of stuff.

    Good to see your patience.

    Thanks Dave!

Yes, going slow has been the way to go. So many times i wanted to just throw in the towel and fully stock it, but i resisted the temptation to do so. I wish I would have kept better logs of how slow I took things so that I can outline them for someone just getting into the hobby.

    :)
