    WOWIE ZOWIE!

Dude, following along for this one, well worth the wait to figure out what you were going to do!

Definitely worth the wait and everything has been moving smoothly.

the one thing I forgot to mention is I am not running an apex on this tank. I am trying to keep it nice and simple. Im using an Inkbird for the temp control and a Tunze for the ato. I decided to use an IFTTT powered power strip to control the outlets and it has been awesome.

  2. Figured it was time to start a new thread to keep track of the progress on this tank.  I broke down my 250DD last fall in anticipation of a move and transferred my livestock into a rubbermaid 300g until I figured out a new setup and where exactly we were going to end up.

The wall where I decided I wanted a tank at the house is 82" long and it turns out Red Sea released this tank and it is 79".  I was initially thinking of going the custom route but this option was just way too convenient to ignore.  I wanted something longer that also sat up higher than my old marineland tank.  The low stand just sucked. I also wanted this thing to be a quiet as possible and the Red Sea tank fit that bill.

This thing has 3/4" glass and is heavy! I ended up using hydraulic lift carts to get it in position and there were 5 of us to lift it. The tank was then cycled with dry rock, added bacteria and I dosed Dr. Tims  ammonium chloride to feed the bacteria.  I also transferred a ceramic marine block that had been in the old tank and the temp setup when I moved the fish over.  I let the tank cycle for a little over a month without lights.

The fish were moved over two weeks ago and everyone adjusted well.  I am trying to figure out my coral stock list but I really want this tank to be nice and easy.  I am thinking a mix of some LPS, easy SPS (birds nest, montis etc) and a few softies.

    Equipment list:

Red Sea Reefer 900 XXXL with stock sump

Ecotech Vectra L2 for the return

    Ecotech MP60QD (2)

    Ecotech XR15 Blue (4)

Nyos 220 skimmer (this thing is so quiet)

    Kessil H350 over the refugium

    Geo 618 Calcium Reactor

    Geo Kalk Reactor

    Livestock:

    Bali Aquarich Majestic Angel

    Yellow Kole Eyed Tang

    Breeding pair of Ocellaris clowns

    Azure Damsel

    Colins Angel

    (7) Bimaculatus Anthias

  3. I was running a DCT12000 on the 300DD and the only issue I had was a controller fail. I had a spare and never had any issues after. Im running the newer DCP pumps now on the temp setup and like the flexibility to have more control over the flow. Its hard to beat the price on the Jebao and you could buy multiples for the price of one Reef Octopus

  4. Going really well, I've also started dosing the LPS and Amino Acid bottles as well (in addition to a weekly dose of AcroPower). Unfortunately I just had a fish come in with velvet which forced me to get all the fish out today.  So looks like I'll be corals only for the next 76 days

That stinks.  The LPS AA is great stuff.  I still use it even after I stopped running the full Zeo setup

  5. It has been a while since I have updated this and I finally remembered to snap a few pictures on the phone that I could post.  Work has kept me extremely busy and I thank myself everyday for reverting this tank back to a simpler setup.  My calcium/alk consumption started to get out of control so I have moved to Bruce's system of dosing Kalk and using the CaRx.  I removed a ton of red cap on the left side of my tank that was sucking up a ton of calc/alk in order to keep things in line and just clean up the tank.  I still need to trim a bunch of colonies that have started growing into each other (good problem to have) and try and remove a bubble tip or two that have split and are hanging around the back of my tank.  Fish are all staying well fed and getting along.  Every once in a while I debate about adding this fish or that fish but I have enjoyed having everything on cruise control.

  6. Richie,

Attached is a copy of my lighting schedule which is a modified SPS AB+ schedule.  I am also running some T5 bulbs to help with shadowing and have been very happy with my results.  I would also be happy to send you the schedule if you shoot me a PM with your email.

  7. I would agree with Seth with regards to the pump.  I tried running my CaRX off a manifold, then a MJ pump and finally bit the bullet for a Masterflex to pull the effluent rather than push.  The aquarium plants regulator is awesome and helps make setup a breeze.  Vertex makes a good reactor.  I was looking at that before I came across a deal on a used GEO618.
