  1. If you look back at my build thread you can see how I built my stand for my 90...

Some words of wisdom... Don't fully enclose leave the back open unless you install vent fans....

Don't over think the support! 2x4's going from the ground up at 4 corners is plenty of support! Just make the stand a little wider/longer then your tank! Will give you a nice ledge for a shelf!

Use marine based paint or if not make sure you seal the wood good!

Dc12000?? Holy crap batman that's a lot of power for a 90 lol! I have a 6000 and it's not on full blast lol. I had it on full for awhile but it was too much..

Don't put a QT under your tank because the chemicals you would use In a QT have a high probability of accidentally getting in your sump.. That would be bad... Very bad..

I will never do a black stand again.. Salt creep control is never ending! White all the way lol!

Matt, that is some good advice, particularly about the Qt and chemicals in the sump.  However, I think I will have enough room to put both there and separate them..  If I don't however, I will take your advice and NOT do so!

  2. Hi All...

So, I finally have most of the components for my 90 Gal bow... (up grading from a 36 Gal Bow) Got my sump, MP-40, skimmer, DC12,000 pump, apex lite, (still need lights) and other such items.... Now, I need help building a stand.  I am looking at something rather simple 5' long by 2' wide... although I am looking to do something with more "finesse" in regards to piping and electrical wiring. Additionally, I would like to have enough room under the stand for a 10gal quarantine tank, and possibly an ATO tank (although I might build a separate stand for the ATO in the form of a RODI storage tank as well as a holding tank for NaCl Water on the same stand) *4 tanks... 2 stands*  In regard to finesse, I mean organized and neat... I don't want a birds nest of wiring or a plumber's nightmare.... So.. if you are full of ideas, and well organized, I could use your help.  Saturday... Please PM me with questions, etc... Or post them here... that is fine too I guess... Also, I live in South Arlington near Pentagon City..

  3. I didn't know. QR was stocking them. I already ordered mine from Marine Depot. I should have bought local....

Looking forward to putting another module on my ridiculous Apex system.

There is never harm in askin the LFS first  ;)

  4. What would you find in the keys that you would like to add as an addition to your tank....?

Dunno.. ICH?  LOL..   No really.. maybe a Blenny or a goby or something along those lines..  If possible

  5. Hmmm,  Can you send a link to where you found it was illegal?  Like I said.. I am not going to take a thing if it is illegal (Used to work for the Natl Park Service)  So, I can't/won't do anything illegal...

  6. Hi Gang..

Next week I am planning to head to Florida around Miami to the Keys and enjoy the sun during the holiday break.  While I am there, I would like to do some snorkeling, and maybe bring back something for the tank    However.. I am not sure this is legal..  I did look at the Florida "Fins and Feathers" site <---- *see link *   and it does not mention anything about the private collection of stuff, but only commercial   (Not looking to do any business here)  Soooo.. does anyone else have any info, or done this before?  If so, can you send me some infos?  Thanks!  :scuba:

  7. what help do you need?  What are you trying to do?

If you post, there are a number of us that have Apex's and are very good at programming it (myself included).  Probably better to share the wealth, then to take it to PM, but either way, just let us know :)

    Scott..

I have a variety of things I want to do.. from Auto Top off, to water changes, and of course light and flow settings as well... I have looked online (youtube, etc) and well, Ihave not seen too much in regard to "How to" but more like "look at that I have done"  and that, while it is good for ideas, is not good in practical app without the "how to"  So, I want to get with someone to see how to do it, then disseminate the info somehow.

Hope you don't mind me watching this thread.  I am a novice and a new apex owner as well.  I am still hesitant to attach my main return to it because a possible glitch.  I have found the Neptune Apex forum very helpful in becoming a great soundboard to ensure you are on the right track.  Additionally, members will provide programs for you or review your programs and provide input

Just signed up for the forum.. however, I prefer to sit down with someone who can help.  For me it is easier to be shown, then actually do the process, as opposed to read all day, etc.

PS... I can compensate with your favorite flavor of fizzy beverage, fine cigars, a rum and coke in my shisha (h o ok a h)  lounge/fish room along with good conversation or other similar compensation for your time. Oh, and I am drug free, so don't get any ideas about the shisha lounge!

    Thanks! -B t3012.gif

  9. Hi Gang,

As most of you know, I am new here.  I recently became hooked by the hobby, and soon, I will be switching form my 36 Gallon Bow to a 90 Gallon Bow.  I have an Apex Lite, and soon to come will be lights, Protien Skimmer, Sump, ATO, etc.  So, I want to try to make my system as automated as possible, and I figured since I have the Apex, I may as well use it.   Here is the issue... I am still a novice at it.  I have the basics down... you know, on, off, timers, etc, and they work very well on my current tank, and I am quite satisfied.

What I am looking for is someone who has great knowledge of programming the apex, and has the time to spend with me to show me the ropes in regard to programming etc.  Any help would be appreciated!  If you consider yourself and Apex Expert, and you are willing, and have time to work with me.. send me a PM.

    Thanks in advance!

  10. Hi All,

So I am relatively new here in the forum, however, I though this would be an important thing to put out there…  I am currently a Paramedic Student, and I thought this was quite interesting and something rather important for all of us to be aware of.  Specifically it involves Zoanthid Corals.  I am sure some of you old timers are aware of this, as this article was written about an individual living locally in the DC area.  There are some corals that are potentially poisonous… and very poisonous at that… In the last part of the article it goes on to discuss venom potency…

Let me take a moment to explain...

The most poisionus snake has a venom potency of 25 micrograms per kilogram of body weight… or 0.000025 grams. The venom potency of the coral is 0.0000003 grams.  OK, so how much in Ounces is this you ask?  It is 0.00000001 Oz. while the snake is 0.0000009 Oz.  Quite potent, wouldn't you say?  So, pay attention to the signs and symptoms.. and if you are handling corals, and they are of this specific type, you may want to get yourself,  checked out at the hospital and your coral checked out at the LFS.

    Just some food for thought.

  11. I too have a starfish that is falling apart. He's on the glass grazing and moving around but he always has an arm that is broken off..... At first I thought something was trying to eat him but after doing some research I've read that if there arms start falling off or if they start spewing guts to take them out as they can be toxic to the tank and have been known to cause crashes......

Good luck and I hope he makes it!

if they start spewing guts to take them out as they can be toxic to the tank and have been known to cause crashes......  Just had 2 and an Urchin deteriorate, all in about 24 hours... Ammonia went up to 0.25 PPM... Nitrites 0.25 PPM and Nitrates 20-25 PPM     Fortunately I haven't any corals... and I happened to have my 10 Gal Quarantine Tank sitting next to the main tank... sooooo Took the fish out of Quarantine (I hope it is not sick..) acclimated the fish.  Put it in Main tank and then emptied 10 Gal out of Main tank, and replaced with Quarantine water!  Tomorrow it is back to the LFS for 20 Gal of Salty goodness for the fishes... and maybe more for the following days..  Now all I need is a RDO, and a box of instant ocean in case I continue to do this...   Needless to day.. it was a bad day in the tank... and hopefully things will live for the next 12-15 hours... so far everyone looks ok, except the Coral Beauty Angel, which my Fire Angel seems to like to chase about the tank and nip at..

  12. Thanks all for the nice and kind words..at the Moment I have been helping Steve and Vince out preparing for their event tomorrow (today) So, I have not had much time to fool with photos..  But, know this.. I am a FOWLR kind of guy.

I have a three Chromis, and some way too expensive clown fish (Although I really do like them)...a lobster that I thought had died, but turned out he poked his head out from under the rock tonight.. so, I guess he molted... I did have an emerald Crab.. he either molted or is dead, cause he went down the drain the other night... I have one of those red spotted shrimp..he is cantankerous, but fun to watch.  Also, and anemone that lives in a clam shell, and the clowns are slowly warming up to.  Vortex MP-10, APEX LITE, a sump made of buckets (and it actually works pretty well) a pretty cheap protein skimmer, and some really nice 36" LED light that Steve and Vince sold me when I first got started.  As you all know, the stuff is expensive, but worth it...and I like my setup thus far.  I took a photo of the tank.. it is on my Iphone...  yeah... It is on my facebook page now too... but, nope.. not simple enough for me to cut and past here.. so, maybe next time.  Wahh Wahh..

  13. Hi Gang...

I am Blake... Some of you may have seen me hanging about down at Quantum Reefs with Steve and Vince... I don't work there, but I play like I do on TV.  I originally bought a 36 Gal Bow Tank.. something nice for my "H o o kah Lounge" (No drugs) in my basement. It is pretty well set up now thanks to Steve and Vince... So Far things are going pretty well...

I forgot to mention something though.. I bought one of the Apex Control systems... yeah.. it is pretty bad ass I just finished setting it up. :)

I am sleepy, and it is late and I have to drive to Harrisburg in the Morning.  You'll see me at QR quite a bit, say hi..or if you are into Shisha (Hoo kah) and cocktails (Rum and Coke, Baileys on the rocks, etc) and want to get together..let me know.  Also, if you would like to see the Apex system working, or have any questions.. it is pretty straight forward, and I'll be glad to help.

OK, I am gonna sleep now.

    LOL
