got a bit stressed from work today, so want down stair to view my tanks and decided to make a few video of the clownfish pairs.
The one of bullet hole grew pretty fast. almost twice the other. I guessed it's a she now.
-
it's normal behavior. it's sun bathing just like we do
-
ugh! that didn't work. it recovering and coloring backup. I am going to try scrapping it with a spoon or butter knife to get deeper into the top layer of the coral.

Bryan, are you using the pvc pipe as drain or this going onto a pump (pressure)?
i usually cut it with a oscillating saw and trimmed the end. Just eye ball it, not perfectly straight but pretty good clean cutI use pvc glue if the pipe is used on the pump side. pipe and use silicone on the drain side.

Chuck what do you use? I’ve used it more times than I can remember and never had an issue. Willing to bet (right or wrong) that I’m not the only one :). I only wrap the thread a couple times and very tightly. The issue is when people add too much tape and over tighten. I have also used pipe thread sealant in the past.
I prefer to glue joints in most cases.
I don’t use anything on the thread. For bulkheads, I put a small beads of silicone on the inside of the tank for added security. Other than that, hand tight threaded pvc and 1/4”+ with a wrench.
Here is the info link to pvc fittings.

You should not use plumping tape (teflon) on pvc thread. It can stress the pvc and cause leak and possibly crack.
Teflon tape designed for metal fitting. -

wow! 4 weeks is pretty long time to be away from a tank, esp. a nano. I usually have auto feeder and large ato reservoir with enough water for 2 weeks. but I have a large system (450 gallons).
IMO, your best option would be getting a maintenance company. I'd not ask my friend to take care of my tank for that long. you will likely end up losing a friend Good luck!.

looking awesome bro!

Since it’s living tissue is on the outside you could attempt to simply scrub it with a stiff brush but the little flakes that break off would probably grow elsewhere so perhaps break those off first and then scrub down whatever is left. I would think (not sure of this) that you would kill it off this way and leave behind the nice blue skeleton for other corals to grow over. Maybe test this out on a small piece?
Thanks,
I'll give it a try when I get a chance. Spring is around the corner and I have tons of want to do projects.

Thanks guys!
it’s pretty large 10-12” across just that section. There are ton more in other areas.
It’s going to be a whole lot of epoxy?. I’ll try razor blade and scrap some off first and nip out with bone cutter and then epoxy. It’s going to be a pain to get to it as I am right-handed and the darn area only accessible from the left side. -
I never thought of ever having to kill coral in my tank but the heliopora got super invasive and starting to take over my tank. I can manually cut off the corals and prevent for spreading to other. However, this one is a bit tricky.
anyone has ideas on how to kill part of the heliopora that spreading into the sunset monti without having to remove the rock and nip them off? -
Some coral just doesn’t grow in one tank but will grow like weed in another tank. I have a few frags of sps that don’t grow at all for many many years.

Looks noice, Chuck. Might need a drag of that when it grows out. Gotta make some room in my tiny tank.

Nice! Can’t wait to see your progress.

Bone cutter works just fine. Nip it off by the branch and avoid cutting too close to the head. Alternatively if you can remove the whole colony, dremel can do the job too.

BW doing good so far. Turned out the rainbow bta next to it got stressed out and split into 2. So IMO the intro of the BW does have something to do with it.
The BTA are massive this morning
Here we go! Chuck's new build

I was never a cat person, but now ended up with 4. They were supposedly intended as barn/shed cats to control field mice from my property, but now house cats and 8 meals/day + clean up nightly chores. Can't win with the wife and kids. . But they are cute!
Thanks
