That might have had a bit of influence on the decision… :-) He is actually a very calm, well behaved 6-line, though. Mark was even a little surprised when he saw him in person. I will take some more pictures and start a thread for the quarantine setups. They are nothing more than a simple quarantine tank for fish and a separate one for corals, but I agree that if it can help show anyone how simple quarantining is, it is well worth it. Jesse

Thank you! Good eye you have. The purple tang gets along so well with the Goldflakes as well as every other fish he has been with. I hate to see him go, but I am a little nervous putting him in with the Black Tang. Therefore I will be selling him. Same goes with the 6-line. I have some other wrasses that I have gone with and decided to sell him, as well.

Yes, there were prior tanks. This is the first one on a larger scale, though. The last one was a 90. I will try to post some pictures from time to time. Current Tank - 400 Gallon Mr. Saltwater Tank Designed and Built System, 300g Display, Fish Room with 55 Gallon Sump, 50 Gallon Fuge and Separate Fish and Coral Quarantine Tanks

I don't have anything big planned. I have a few other pairs or small schools of fish. Corals are slowly being added. Otherwise it is just time to sit back and enjoy.

There is no other option in my book. I have them in quarantine for at least 4 weeks. All fish and corals in my system go through quarantine. He came from a wholesaler in CA. Luckily I have a friend that can help me source some fun fish and corals.

Thanks all! Yes, I am chomping at the bit to get them in. I am considering leaving the black tang in the 75 gallon QT for a while to let it grow up. He is pretty small. I don't have any other zebrasomas in the DT, so he should be fine either way.

Here is a picture of the tank. This is a new build that has only been running for 6 weeks, so please be kind with the comments. :-) Here is the sump and fugue in my "fish room"

I just haven't gotten into the forum much, but thought I would share these fun additions…I have a hard time breaking away from the tank and family (whenever I am not working) to find time to sit at the computer.

Hi All, I wanted to share some of my new additions to my 300 gallon DT. They have 5 more days in quarantine before moving into their new home. They have all been healthy, happy and eating well since their arrival. I have to say I am anxiously waiting for them to be in the DT. Jesse

I am not trying to derail this conversation, but have you considered not using an algae covered rock? Live rock already has the ability to bring hidden pests to your tank, IMO, it is not worth using a piece(s) with known issues that can only add frustration to keeping your tank.

These are great pictures. Things are looking good. I agree with the comment on the QT guide and multiple tanks. It is well worth the small amount of money for the guide. There isn't much info on coral quarantining in the guide, but from the research I have done, it seems that the best guess is a 2 month quarantine to be longer than the life cycles of most coral pests.

Advice sought from the vast experience at WAMAS-Tank Evolution
Jesse replied to makai531's topic in New to the Hobby
I vote on the external, drilled, overflow (the ghost overflow or something similar). I built my new 300 gallon with an external overflow after having an internal on my 90 gallon and I love the external overflow. Not having space inside the tank taken by the overflow is perfect. It also gives you options for the type of drains you wish to run. -
This is a great idea. I am willing to do the data entry myself if any of the guys servicing these types of aquariums want to send me a list. I will also manually add any other places other people post on this thread. I am not interested in making this a business, but would like to be able to provide a free place for people to find tanks near them. I really appreciate everyone's feedback and hope to build up the list with everyone's help. Jesse

Thank you, I will add this one in. Sounds like an impressive set of tanks.

Yes, you do need to login to post a new place. It is free, but this is to help keep spam out of the site. Thanks!

Hi All, I am a new WAMAS member (less than a year). My wife and I wanted to go on a date to a restaurant with a saltwater tank. We quickly realized there was no online resource or directory for for this. I built a website (http://localtanks.com) dedicated to finding local businesses with tanks. I now need your help inputting any place you recommend for me and others to visit. There are many websites dedicated to finding LFS, but I hope this site can help find other types of public tanks and patronize businesses that have gone out of their way to have a tank. Please feel free to provide feedback. Thanks! Jesse http://localtanks.com

After getting my sump and overflow as quiet as possible, I lined the inside of my stand and canopy (except for some ventilation holes) with this: http://www.acoustiblok.com/. It made it even quieter and my wife was very thankful.

I considered doing this, but found it easier to setup a ghost energy bar 8 in the apex. You can then use the variable 'water change'. If you ever turn this on, you can set each real outlet you want to go off. For instance, in this you could add the lines: If Outlet WaterChange = ON Then OFF If Outlet WaterChange = OFF Then ON These two lines can be on your heater, ato, gfo pump, return, etc... outlet profiles. If you do it this way, then you don't have to worry about the timer running out (ok, 2 hours is a crazy amount of time for a water change, but I still like to have to manually turn it back off) This is where I. Learned most the advanced programming: http://reeftech.webs.com/Apex%20New%20User%20Guide.pdf. I found this very useful. Page 97 is the section on ghost/virtual outlets. I use these like crazy. They are very cool. Turn one of these on, and it sets my vortechs (via the wxm) to nutrient export mode or whatever other mode I have setup for it to do.

I would suggest changing it to the below. Unfortunately the 'defer' command won't work with an 'if'. The following will keep the skimmer off for 6 minutes during a feed or power off on eb8_5, but it is an easy to program compromise. Fallback OFF Set ON If FeedA 001 Then OFF If FeedB 001 Then OFF If Power EB8_5 Off 001 Then OFF If Outlet HighSump = ON Then OFF Defer 005:00 Then ON

I found this very helpful to setup my apex: http://reeftech.webs.com/Apex%20New%20User%20Guide.pdf. I have also needed to call Neptune for a faulty part and they were extremely helpful.
