  1. heard that people have had reliability issues with them...i have a neptune controller...but have never liked neptune service

i have couple MP40's WES, that i maybe putting up for grabs..ecotech has the best support ever on anything

i just got the gyre xf250, holy &%$# it moves stuff and very quiet...never experienced support with maxspect...so no comment yet

  2. when i do my future build Rob I'll have it done right by you

i fixed it this time and just put a union since it wasn't the ball valve that was clogged

turns out my flame wrasse :( somehow got back there despite having a net top...that and some old snail shells did it

    anyway all clear now...thx

  3. hey guys,

my return line seems clogged somewhere...

it is all hard pvc glued...and has a ball valve in the middle....after some testing i believe the ball valve input is the cause.

thing is i cannot turn the valve, I've tried a wrench and its stuck good and finally one of the holding thumb twisting extensions even broke off... i am planning to cut of the plumbing and redo it again without a ball valve in the return line..

    any suggestions ?

i plan on putting a temporary flexipipe to my 1 inch drain line.

  4. I picked up a rubbermaid tub and I am looking for something like a fluval that I can hang on it

I got the fluval 40-70 but it's about half and inch to thin to hang

Any suggestions on what else I can try

Also looking for suggestions for a hob skimmer for it

    Its 53 long x 31 wide x 12 height and 50 gallons

  5. FWIW, I've personally seen a Finnex Titanium heater malfunction and boil the water in an acrylic sump, then melt thru the side of the sump like a hot knife through butter, then continue to cook and catch the melted acrylic on fire. IMO, these are some of the worst heaters to use. Made in China specials!

wow thats scary...i thought they were good cuz of the reviews on BRS

i cleaned mine up and its good again...

i also don't think it could overheat in this case cause the apex would detect the temperature increase and cut power to the heater.

so even if the finnex  controller malfunctions and decided to be always on ...the apex would not allow it.

for now everything is working good again

seems like there is a horror story for almost every heater model

  6. hey guys i had a few alarms go off on my tank and i am trying to figure what triggered what. I believe that they are 2 separate incidents...but here goes.

i got a notification of low sump levels ( which i usually ignore cause my ato catches up unless i get them frequently enough indicating a real problem). so i did get it a few of them today and went to look into it.

i found that it was a real issue cause my sump was low in the area being monitored & my skimmate locker was nearly full.

Now i proceeded to look at my return pump and found a fatty turbo snail (empty shell) partly blocking it.

I figured that the shell which was partly restricting water flow caused the water level to rise in the sump thereby increasing the skimmate level and causing it to overflow.

i fixed everything and thought it was all good.

then i hear a constant low volume alarm like sound. I look into it and it turns out that one of my heaters , the BRS Finnex titanium heater is showing 92 degrees and flashing. the tank temperature was actually 79 so i realized the finnex was malfunctioning.

I cleaned the temp probe a little and it looked like it fixed the finnex but i took it out and i am giving it a vinegar bath now.

so my question is does this look like 2 unrelated incidents or could the finnex have resulted in the skimmer overflowing in some way?

also i did not know that the finnex have a but in alarm sound..which is good i guess..but i want to confirm that it is indeed an alarm sound due to the temp being too high and not something else that tells me to not put it back in.

the apex graphs show my power to the titanium heater going off today at 7am based on the power drawn so its not something that i just happened to catch while fixing the skimmer/tuurbo snail shell blocking.

  7. I haven't been particularly good at managing the frozen slab of food...cuz it would gather at one end and get thick and I would be too lazy to break it to the right size.

anyways I wanted to try making my own version of frozen fish food.

I got mini ice cube trays to keep them at the right size and I can resuse them as needed

I was thinking of the following

    1) Vitachem

    2) freeze dried cyclop-eeze

    3) rods food

    4) fresh shrimp

    5) some random fishy stuff from a Asian grocery store (idk if I can find some roe etc there for sushi...I may throw that in with it)

    6) seaweed rolls

    7) mashed clove of garlic

mash it all up and pour in the mini cube tray

I want to add some probiotics but don't know what to put in there ...any suggestions ?

  8. I have noticed that when i take my swabbie lid out to clean that there is a thick (almost an inch) layer of gunk that is collected near the upper 25% of the wiper blade. this happens over a period of time.

I've also seen on occasion that it got kinda big enuf to have fallen back into the skimmer body and sit on a part of the bubble making section near the bottom of the skimmer. It didn't disintegrate on its own and i had to manually break the clump.

the 2nd wouldn't happen if i wasn't gathering so much gunk on the blade to begin with.

any suggestions on what i could be doing to make this better.

    1) increase skimmate level more ?

    2) how often should the wiper be cleaned.

also just a suggestion ...atm i have to take the lid long with the wire when i clean... maybe a dc plug on the motor would help to disconnect the wire from the motor housing to allow only the lid to be taken without removing the cable.

  9. I would avoid all males...don't think it would work...plus a male flame wrasse is very $ vs a female flame wrasse ...also the transformation is fun
