  1. Part of it is also what color combination do you want. I like more blue so I have my blues turned up to about 90% and my whites are around 70-75%. I used to ramp up to this level but now they just turn on straight at this level. I also started out with all lights at around 50% and then gradually increased to this level over a month or so.

  2. If it's going in a location like the picture, have you considered an 'L' shaped tank? I'm just picturing you trying to reach the front of a 4' cube and it not going so well. I've seen some cool L shaped tanks that have slightly different themes on each leg. Like mostly LPS down one side and then transition to SPS down the other.

  3. Was looking in the tank last night after lights out and noticed my clown goby has a new bed! I've seen him try to hang out here during the day but it usually doesn't happen. Just thought I would share.

  4. I really like that extra tall stand. Lots of room for gear, right height for viewing and the little shelf in there is a nice addition.

Thanks! I really wanted a stand that put the tank up closer to eye level and I also wanted the extra storage space inside. It may not be the prettiest stand in the world but it gets the job done.

  5. I was going through some of my old threads looking for one to add some new pics to and realized that I didn't have a dedicated tank thread so here we go. My setup is a drilled 40B with a Bean-Animal coast-to-coast overflow system connected to a 20 gal sump/fuge. The lights, stand, overflow, and sump/fuge were built by myself and have been ticking away now for about 2.5 years with a move thrown in after being only setup for a year. The lights are a custom built 40 bulb Cree LED fixture with LEDs from Rapid LED. They are powered by 3 dimmable drivers and a controller. The sump houses the heater, Reef Octo skimmer, ATO, fuge and a Mag 7 return pump. Everything is controlled by a Reef Keeper Lite.

The stock is a mixed reef with mushrooms, LPS, SPS, clam, anemone, and a few zoas/palys. As for fish, I have a pair of occ. clowns (1 b&w and 1 orange), a breeding pair of bengai cardinals, a clown goby, and a diamond goby. I love my setup and works perfectly for me. If I had to change one thing, it would probably be the overflow system. Now don't get me wrong, the Bean-Animal system is whisper quiet and the peace of mind that comes from three separate drain line is very reassuring. On the other hand, the coast to coast overflow and all the plumbing, takes up a lot of space in my tank and I really feel like I'm losing out on valuable real estate. Well enough talk, let the pictures speak for themselves.

  6. 14gal is not too small at all. I actually started out with a 10gal and did just fine. If you're wanting to start keeping some corals, I would upgrade your lighting. The stock power compact lighting in the biocubes just doesn't cut it. Rapid LED has a nice upgrade kit that integrates right into the original canopy of the biocube and works great.
