  1. cant really tell by the pictures because of the quality, but im going to say its green hair algae.  looks likes there is cyano around it too.

excess nutrients in the tank are going to cause this, whether its over feeding, high bio load, or not enough water changes.

try to remove as much as you can manually then do a water change. you could try shortening your light cycle but if the nutrients are there to grow, light wont do too much.

what fish are in the tank? how often do you do water changes and how much? how old are you lights?

  2. Small (overdue) update, moved from my mom's place to an apartment. Moving the tank to the third floor was a total pain. New light arms were added. The light sits even now and it's length is easily adjusted. Two jeboa rw4's were added as my gyre decided to poop out shortly after the move. Other then that not much else has changed, some corals didn't make it through the move but most are happy now.

Paul, nothing but props, but I was called out once upon a time so I gotta say: just like the last thread you started, this feels more like an add than an inquiry.

I know you were ranting in response to someone else's reply, but really? Keep this garbage off this forum!

    sooo much butthurt

Paul, the cap looks really cool. lmk when your ready to frag ill take a piece!

  4. that piece started to brown when I had it in high light with med flow so I moved it over to lower light. it hasnt gotten worse but it hasnt gotten its color back yet but I am keeping a close eye on both piece I got from you.

all of the frags that you gave me are doing very well and are encrusting very fast.

I also picked up a bunch of zoa frags from epleeds this weekend, sunny D's, raptors rainbows, purple hornets, AOG, rastas, and some uter chaos. Ill try to get some pictures off them all mounted on my soon to be zoa garden.

  5. imo getting a tank to look great takes two things, time and stability.

1: I always kept my feeding simple, pellets every night with the pumps off and mysis every so often. but I never kept fish that required special feeding.

2: YES YES YES! if you can afford a reef tank, you can afford an ato! remember stability is key!

3: I do 5 gallons a week in my 34 gallon w/ 20L sump. that being said my bio-load is very low atm. if you feed heavily then you will need bigger water changes.

remember to match salinity and temp to your current tank conditions before doing the water change.

4:once a week should be fine. if things seem funky [cloudy water, poor polyp extension, odd fish behavior] then test immediately to find a solution.

5: im not familiar with this system so I cant say for sure, but I think running the media in a filter bag should be fine.

  6. traded the nanobox for an 6 bulb ati fixture. colors are much better now. Ive moved some of the corals around for better lighting as some of the sps were browning pretty bad. hopefully they come back in a few weeks.

midas blenny is doing amazingly and is eating like a pig. I added him about a month ago so I think its time for another fish. next up will be long fin clowns, just need to save up the $$$

  7. After many tank crashes due to equipment failure and neglect I took a bit of a break. Ive decided to come back and get this tank rolling again.

i cant decide if i want to do a fuge or frag tank in the sump. I've got the lights to do either one.

in other news my nanobox quad will be shipping next monday.
