There's this nice RBTA that I got that had settled in the front of the tank, nice to look at, easy to see. But as of this morning, it decided to move behind that rock. Normally I'd be ok with an anemone moving, but now that it's in the back you can't really see it and it's going to be a pain to feed. Is there any way to 'entice' it to move back up front?

I have weird red algae with thick threads (unlike hair algae). It came in on the snails which are now covered with it like furry hats. I think it is a macro-algae. Now the stuff is spreading all over and its out of control. I really hate breaking down rock --it takes forever to get it back the way you had it. I need to take half the rock out and scrub and this particular algae is like trying to scrub pavement off a road. I found a great website: Red Algaes and from that I think it is Rhodymenia leptophylla but I could be wrong. Advice please.
Yeah, that looks like red macroalgae. I have it taking over half of my tank...Tangs are supposed to love it but my tank's too small...

sorry dude i found my midas blenny on the floor today as well. all dried up though
Same thing happened to my midas. They spook pretty easily apprently.

McCoskers wrasses are becoming common. They are beautiful active fish and they don't get bigger than 2-3".
+1 I have one (Being moved to the display tank as we speak) and he's very nice. Swims around all the time.

I am sure it was the six line as mine beats up most fish that go in the tank with it.
What fish is ready to come out of QT?

I have a 6 line and a gama in a 29 and they do fine. They do pick on one another some, but nothing serious. The gamma does need to have a spot where he can hide or feel comfortable. You will just have to watch. What other fish do you have in there that are aggresive?
The 6 line is probably the only remotely aggressive fish. There's a pair of ocellaris clowns, but they generally just stay near their anemone, which isn't where the gramma's hanging out.

So I added a royal gramma to the tank last night, and they're supposed to be easy fish. I couldn't find him last night, and I kind of dismissed it since they are somewhat secretive. Then when I feed the tank, I see him, and he's not looking good. The fish looks extremely stressed, and it looks like someone nipped at his back dorsal fin (the one without the spot). He ate, which is a good sign, but I'm wondering if it's just traveling stress or a bully. I'm kind of leaning towards the six-line, since I know they can be bullies. I have another fish that's in the QT ready to go into the main tank. Should I let the gramma settle in more or should I bring the other fish up to spread the aggression around? Or does someone need to go?

A refugium will help. Also feeding less or doing larger/more water changes might have an effect.

Just about any wrasse will give you constant motion.
Kicking up the flow in the tank keeps them moving more.
+1 That's what I love about wrasses, they never stop moving.

And whoo, is it bright out here! Just saying hey. I've been around reading off and on since '08 and finally decided to join up fully. I know, I know, slow learner lol. But this seems like the place to be. So take good care of me! Been in the hobby about 4 years, with a 46 bow, 15 gallon sump, 2x96w PC's and a LOT of learning from my mistakes. Just recently moved into more space and with more time on my hands, also I've been bitten by the "biggger bug". So I came to join the cool kids club.

And I know how you feel with a 46 bow, it's all I'm going to have for awhile.

lol yeah that's what I meant, (LFS). I've been to Pristine's, I'm not a big fan. They have more freshwater fish than salt. Their bta's run around $60 and at Roozen's its like $38. Its a bit pricey at Pristine's.
Marine Scene and Petland are both good stores, their staff is knowledgable and they have a pretty large selection.

It's Halymenia (dragons breath).
It looks more like a dragon's breath type then a graci.
Graci breaks kind of easy while dragon's breath is pretty tough, like leather.
Your anemone seems to be happy underneath it.
It breaks up easily if I pull it out, which is why I kind of thought gracilaria, but it looks like dragon's breath.
And yes, it moved right there...on top of a paly.

I've always been an animal person. When I was a little younger, I wanted snakes and spiders and all those other critters. Instead I got a fish tank. I don't regret that at all. It's like having a little piece of the ocean that we can cherish and learn from. I just like it.

Looks like fine Gracilaria(sp). My tang would tear that up, lol.
That's what I thought at first too, but when I looked at pictures of gracilaria, it looked a lot branchier than this...

So I honestly can't decide what this is. I'm somewhat leaning towards Dragon's Breath Macroalgae, but I'm honestly not sure. Any thoughts?

tubastrea (sun corals) can take direct light. It is better to put them in a spot that has good flow without regard to the lighting that they receive, than to put them in a spot that is shaded that has poor flow. There are even pictures of Tubastrea micrantha (branching, black sun corals) sticking right up into direct sunlight with sps. Feed it daily at multiple times in the day and it will be open most of the time. Mine are directly under a 250W MH in my seahorse tank and are open ~20 hours a day. Good flow and food is more important than the amount of light.

I kind of put it there for ease of feeding...yes I am somewhat lazy. I usually just squirt mysis at it. Is it ok if not all the polyps get mysis everytime I feed them?

so I just added a foxface fish and a tiny clarkii about 1.2inches today. I have a clarkii in there that is about 2.5inches and its chasing the little new guy everywhere non stop, but I took the net and managed to scoot the little clarkii behind some rocks. Eventually, I want the bigger clarkii to mate with the little clarkii. I also put in a bubble tip anemone in the other day he's about 3inches in diameter I fed it 1in. piece of raw shrimp split in half, I don't know if the anemone ate it or if the clownfish pushed it out. How often should I feed the bta?
It seems like you're stocking the tank really quickly if it's only 1 month old.

I'm not sure if they're Astrea, but you shouldn't have a problem with the 6 line. I had baby snails (Stomatella I think) and the 6 line generally left them alone.

That's what I may end up doing, it's kind of out of any flow at the moment though, so I may have to get a little handheld powerhead.
That's what I was thinking, except I've had it for a few weeks already. Do they still move around after that?
