  1. I'm pretty sure it varys frpm case to case. I bought a shrimp and goby separate and they took around 2 months to find eachother in a 6 gallon.
  2. i went to fins and feathers yesterday for the first time and they were definatly an awesome store with a great selection and very knowledgeable staff.good prices and a decent selection, everything was also very healthy. i was very impressed and happy.worth the just over two hour drive.
  3. so far the only thing i had noticed was a slight aggression right when i added the lion but he acted aggressively toward the crab, the crab backed down and havent seen any problems since. the same goes for the cbs and the crab ever since their first territorial dispute the cbs stole his cave and the arrow has relocated. i just picked up a few more things from fins and feather yesterday it was my first visit to that store and it was great thanks for all your help fins and feathers. i also ordered a few things from vivid aquariums that should be here this week. and dave thanks for the tubs and ric they are both doing great i think a polyp or two may have even started on the blues. the only supplements i add to this tank are one drop of lugols iodine two times a week. i change the water once a week and top off just over a half gallon a week. the lion is a fat little bugger he eats around a dozen ghost shrimp every 3 days (thats not including what ones naturally die or from the shrimp or crab hunting which i would say is 3 every 3 days) i gut load the shrimp with pellet and mysis before i feed them and acclimate them for about a hr to sw so theyll live a little longer til they are eaten.
  4. water change and make sure theres no dead spots where debris can rot. you can always add a small fuge out of a hob or something with calerpa. ive always only run carbon and sponge filter in my nanos and had success, maybe there too much chemical media in the filters causing over filtration of some kind?
  5. this is my new ten gallon started after my 6 gallon crashed http://www.wamas.org/forums/topic/32867-6-gal/ the ten gallon has 2 aqua clear filters on it and one red sea nano filter. there is a mini fuge (with grape calpura (sp?) and a 7 watt pc over it) in one ac and carbon and sponge ran in the other, the red sea nano filter just has sponge in it for now to catch loose debris im thinking about packing it with lr. theres a dwarf lion in here (around 2 inches) with an arrow crab and gold coral band shrimp (dont say anything i planned this out and its working fine they stay on their own sides of the tank and i keep a close eye on them) theres a hammer, frogspawn, zoas, rics, and blastomussa. i plan on keeping the tank to mainly softies and a few lps. theres 2 18 watt actinics over the tank and one 27 watt 65k (20 buck desk lamp from hd)heres a few teaser pics to start will get more as soon as i can. please excuse some of the corals not being open all the way it was the day after i added them, decided i couldnt get rid of my arrow crab since it was the only thing that survived my 6 gallon crash
  6. i went to atlantis after the previous post and its defiantly my favorite store in the dc md va area ive been to. i have been to around ten or more saltwater store in the area and they have my favorite coral selection, and there fish selection isnt half bad either they are defiantly more towards corals though. the staff there is awesome and always willing to help and answer questions. great prices and great deals i recommend this store to anyone whos is in the richmond area. and cant forget the buy 2 get one free frag rack it gets me every time.
  7. i saw this product at aquarium one called reef pods they said it was supposed to be copepods and stuff like that for sale. not sure on how well it works with shelf life and stuff like that. they were just in a plastic bag with water and a little ball of macro algae.

  16. defiantly not gonna give up on the hobby forever, but defiantly need to take a step back for a bit until i get back to work (been laid off since the week before xmas). its a shame too because i just got back into it about 9 to 12 months ago, o well theres a time and place for everything. as for survivors there arent going to be too many unfortunately, tomorrow i think ill really be able to tell what has a chance and what doesnt. a lot of what i pulled just seemed to not have the flesh completely off yet but seems to be receding rapidly. i have a feeling maybe 3 corals tops will make it my arrow crab will probably make it and my yellow sponge ( the first thing bought for the aquarium, sort of ironic?) but ill keep you guys updated with some pics tomorow
  17. hey everyone im sure i wasnt the only one to have a tank crash during this fine winter storm, i got stuck out of my house with a 6 gallon nano with a 5.5 gallon sump left alone. power went out and had to have my dad unhook my overflow via over the phone instruction. i sat and walked him through all that would help my tank no goto to birds. had him set some hobs on the tank so there was something to filter in between when the power would go on and off because it was doin so all night. so it was being snowed in and waiting to see how things went, due to the snow i guess everyone stocked up on water so there wasnt any extra on hand. so i had gotten some phone calls and before the storm expected to lose a few things. fast forward to this afternoon when i finally get home. i cant even seen into my tank and my entire basement where my tank and bedroom is smells so foul, it was disgusting. so i go and look into my ridicuolously foggy tank and first thing i did was call a friend who lives a lil bit away but has a bigeer stable system and seen if they could take wat had lived off my hands but they couldnt. so i hurried up and got what looked like it had a chance of living into a few picos i had running but had nothing in them yet due to lack of funds, they stayed in there until i got back from my er trip to petco, there i bought a ten gallon aga and a bunch of pre mixed sw went hime pulled out all my rock rinsed it and rinsed all my corals with fresh sw and put the water from the picos into the ten to help skip some kind of cycle. i got everything up and running fine with carbon and some phosban and hob filters with a skimmer also running. things dont seem to be looking too hot, most of the corals are expelling mucus and there flesh at a pretty rapid pace, hopefully at least a few things make it. my arrow crab i had in the sump/fuge somehow loved every other invert with the exception of a few hermits kicked it, even had a linkia star doing good for 2 months in there. needless to sayi think im going to take a step out of the hobby for a little bit. lets hear your stories hopefully everyone eleses wasnt as bad as mine. rip 1/7/10

    6 gal

so this is the worst update i could have given haha. after battling and finally being done with flat worms, none other than this fine storm we have gotten smashed this beatiful tank to pieces, i lost pretty much EVERYTHING after this there are a few corals and the clam on the way to recovery. to save what i could i set up a ten gallon by itself with all cleaned out everything because i didnt want to deal with the headache of the old system especially now since what is left is being sold including the lights and equipment. im going to most likely step back from the hobby once again after this one. dont have the funds for it now, sad thing was actually getn ready to post everything up fs after the storm but not gonna be too big of a list now i suppose after that. everything was running beautifully growing and thriving to say the least, my frogspawn had grown a second head and was working on a third with another mouth popping up, the lobo was doing great, the plate actually outgrew my tank and i gave it to a friend, the acan dropped 4 or 5 babies and was becoming a small colony. all of the sps were growing especially my hawkins enchinata which was my prize coral in the tank. it just sucks to see all the time and effort and animals lives go so quickly, and of course the money invested wasnt a nice thing to see go down the drain either. anywho heres the last updated pic i had taken about 2 or 3 weeks before the crash. if funds would have held up this would have been upgraded to a 20 l sigh...
  19. The fxe rock and coral dip sounds like my best bet, yea nudi would more than likely be last resort and would have to find it a home after mine. I have a small 6 line wrasse that wouldn't eat them. I wouldn't trust the arrow crab that's why he's by himself in the fuge cuz I like arrow crabs a lot n he can't hurt anything there.
  20. SAlo debating a flatworm eating nudi if I can find one
  21. I thought they were aefw but they are planaria. I was wrong about my first guess. Yea they pretty much smothers a few smaller frags I got and are irritating corals. I have a blood shrimp in there but he doesn't seem to eat them. I have a arrow crab In the fuge and he may or may not be eating them but he's not in the display where its. Mainly a problem. I haven't heard of people having good luck w fwe and planaria. How much do you think it would effect the tanks if the rock were to all be fw dipped for a few seconds? I'm assuming it'd have a prtty negitive effect. I also notice they are imn my macro in the fuge, I'm guessing I need to get rid of that stuff too and get new?
