  1. When I got home from work today I was checking on the tank (also known as sitting for hours avoiding doing other stuff) when I noticed that my AOG zoas were in my anenome... first I though the zoas moved into the path of the anenome, how stupid!! Then my brain kicked in and i though, wait.... the anenome moves....not the zoas... what the????

Then I saw it. In the spot where the AOG polyps were was the empty shell of my largest hermit crab.... the AOG's were "fragged" onto a turbo snail shell (how I received them), and they grew there happily until the knuckle dragger decided it was his new home. So, what do I do? How do I get the hermit to vacate my AOG colony? I don't even have a turbo snail shell to offer as an alternative...

    Suggestions?

ps cant post pics... mac users any suggestions?

  2. Hey, I have just set up a frag tank with a refugium. I have an inch or two of sand in the refugium and had egg crate in the frag tank. The egg crate basically covered the bottom and stood an inch off the bottom on pvc.

The problem is with the egg crate in the frag tank. It holds detritus under it which is hard to vacuum out and makes it difficult to clear the algae off the sides of the tank underneath the egg crate. I was considering just putting sand in the frag tank now and using small egg crate stations that are easier to move about.

    Any suggestions?

  3. Thanks for the info..... I am also using it over an open top tank and it is probably my fault it's not working. I also recall dropping it a few weeks ago....

  4. Anyone know how to fix a Current Nova Extreme Pro?

It is fairly new and two of the lamps are out. I was hoping it was bulbs and I bought new ones but no go.

If it can't be fixed can anyone recommend somewhere to get a custom built light system? I have a 54 corner tank and getting the lighting I want has been very expensive and very disappointing.

    Thanks!

  5. I think that's the correct name... there are a lot out there.

These little creeps have been destroying my zoas / palys. So far I've lost at least 5 nice colonies. The dude in the picture is about 1/8 inch long and he's one of the big ones. Caught him hiding in my pipe organ.

I see wrasses in my future...

  6. I just moved a 54 gallon corner tank with a 5 inch sandbed. Took out 2/3 of the water and it was no problem. I only moved it a few inches (twice  ) but once you get it moving it should be fine.

Watch for any divots in the linoleum than it could get hung up on and push from the bottom :)

    Good luck!

  7. Thanks! It is taking me so long to do even the simplest things, but I keep telling my friends and family, who see my house covered in tanks, pumps, and RO water that it's part of my master plan. It doesn't help, they still think I am NUTS! But I do have a master plan and I will post it as soon as it is up!

  8. Hey all,

Thanks to some help in the DIY forum, my frag tank is now successfully plumbed to my new sump and I am filling it with salt water.

The middle section of the sump is intended as a refugium, and there is a considerable amount of space.

What should i put in there? Sand? Mud? just macro algae?

Also once I add whatever I am going to add, how long before I can transfer some corals into the frag tank? If there is nothing to cycle, can I do it immediately?

I am NOT using any water from the DT since I am concerned it might be ick infected and once the frag tank is up and running I am going to transfer my clowns out and let the DT lie fallow for 8 weeks.

    Thanks for your help.

  9. Is the live rock / nitrate problem at all similar to the old deep sand bed issue? If it can happen in a dsb doesn't it make sense that it could happen in live rock?

It's a standard 1-inch "slip" type bulkhead. Standard 1-inch schedule 40 PVC should easily fit it. You can get it at Lowes. You can cement a short bit of 1" pvc pipe followed by a 1" pvc barb adapter, or can follow the pipe with a threaded adapter and a threaded barb adapter. Either way will work.

(BTW, standard 1-inch schedule 40 PVC pipe has an outside diameter of about 1.3".)
