  1. Still looks a bit like a Frag tank but it was just about a year ago I upgraded from my starter Red Sea Max 130d to my 75 Gallon Rimless I know, I have too many corals. I need a 12 step program for coral addiction Most of the larger LPSs' are from small frags that I've grown over the last 6 years. Most of the SPSs' are less than 6" old and from small frags. I'll try to take a better video soon. Thanks for looking - Jeff
  2. I made my first pilgrimage there this weekend. What a place. Nice, not pushy staff. Very clean. So many frags my head spun. And there are some great gems there, and most of their prices are very, very reasonable. I wish I had learned of this place earlier. With 15 dollar shipping, I'll be buying from them again. Compared to the money I've dropped in my local store this place would have saved my thousands over the years... Time for a bigger tank
  3. IMO the problem isn't the eventual size they may or may not get - it's how quickly these spread, move, and will start taking over your tank. I had a red Yuma that grew about to about 15 heads in a year, many of which are over 4" across now. Good luck getting rid of them, you need to bone cut the rock they're on. Scraping them makes it worse... If you like them, it's all good, but if you don't - watch out. They will kill other corals they touch, and very quickly.
  4. I'm running one with the MJ - it works fine. The only problem I had was I didn't clean the top and bottom plugs that hold the media. They have little slots cut in them to let the flow through. Eventually these clogged. I just rinsed them in hot water and scrubbed 'em quick with a toothbrush and all was well again.
  5. Just FYI Folks - Adam has closed the store. It's too bad, I enjoyed shopping there.
  6. This. Get a baseline pressure when you're unit is still new. When the Pressure drops 5 or 10 PSI, replace the first (sediment) filter. Replace the other pre-filters on a schedule as suggested above. Replace the RO membrane on a schedule as suggested above. (I go 1 year on pre, 3 or membrane.) For the DI Resin - I wait until I'm seeing 2 or 3 TDS personally. Do NOT replace the pre-filter when it's tan. They get tan/brown pretty quick. I wait until I see a pressure drop - or it gets so brown I know it can't be clean anymore. The DI resin will change color too (if that's the kind you got.) There is a lot of info, and videos, on this on bulkreefsupply.com. Good Luck - Jeff Gardiner
  7. I've had a 6 line for about 2 months. No problems with other fish, corals or my peppermint shrimp. One thing I've learned from years of keeping fish - they all have their own personalities. Hence, all of the conflicting reports you're seeing here. Also, you never know if people are keeping them in an overcrowded tank or if there are other environmental considerations to factor in. All I can tell you is I have one in a 29 Gallon Red Sea Max and it's fine. Model Citizen. My clown fish is much more aggressive.
  8. Sounds great, thanks for the help!
  9. Thanks for the help: I've purchased a starter kit, a Red Sea Max, details here: http://www.redseamax.com/redseamax/Red_Sea_MAX_specs.html It has a 'Professional turbo protein skimmer driven by a 1,200 lph/320 gph pump' 3 total powerheads, (2 x 145 gph) & 1 Hydor Koralia 2 (600 gph) I'm not using any carbon right now. I've replaced the 'bio balls' with live rock rubble.
  10. Hey all, new member here. New to hobby, been keeping freshwater about 10 years. I've got a 29 Gallon tank up and running. 7 Days ago I added partially cured live rock and 2" of live sand along the bottom. I started running the lights 7 hours a day, increasing an hour a day up to 11. Tested the water day 2, 4 & 7. Salinity: 1.24 Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrites: 0ppm Nitrates: 20, 30, 10 ppm The nitrates are the only thing that has fluctuated in the last 7 days. I also noticed a red-brown algae bloom over the top of the live rock on day 4, which has slowly grown. My questions are: Is the algae a normal part of the cycle? Or am I running my lights too much (2 x 55 watt T5 power compacts, both bulbs are 50/50 bulbs, half 10,000K and half Actinic) ? Is it possible the tank has cycled? The rock smelled 'fishy' when I bought it, so I have to assume not, however I am surprised I haven't seen an ammonia/nitrite spike, unless I missed it in between tests. I plan I waiting at least 8 or 9 more days before adding the cleaning crew anyway - I was just wondering! Thanks for the help!
  11. Hi all, new member. Yes, congressional stock died fish. Being new to the area, before Aquarium One opened, I used to go there all the time and it sickened me. I'm so happy there is a nearby alternative. I'm getting my toes wet in the reef scene now, and was offered a starter red sea max 34 gallon for $840 at Congressional. Went online, found same tank with starter kit and stand for $750. Aquarium One even beat that deal. Great guys, friendly, knowledgeable, and they're recently expanded their Marine selection. If you live in the area, check it out. And wish me luck on my new tank, I'm going to need it! Jeff G.
