  1. Sharing a note that we received from the latest student beneficiary of the WAMAS Coral Reef Conservation Endowed Student Support Fund, Perla Marina Garmendia:

"Thank you so much for supporting the Washington DC Area Marine Aquarist Society (WAMAS) scholarship I recently received.  This funding will be essential to determine if the restoration of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease susceptible stony coral species is appropriate in the Arrecife de Puerto Morelos National Park (APMNP) Mexico using microfragmentation as a restoration tool.  My proposed research will be the basis of my master's thesis; therefore, this funding is determinant to fulfill my studies at Nova Southeastern University (NSU).  As an international student, applying for funding is very limited, so I appreciate the will to fund students at NSU from any background.

Thank you again for believing in my research project and for providing the means to make it happen.

    Best Regards,

    Perla Marina Garmendia"

  2. Todd at Puddle Aquatics has donated a Reef Boxx ($100 value) to our raffle!

The Reef Boxx is a patent pending automatic backup switch that allows users to connect battery backup in many different configurations. It's what will save your fish in a power outage and is a dream come true for the DIY aquarium keeper. You simply plug in your power brick a battery source of your choosing and then the pump that you wish to back up and that's it. When the power goes out the Reef Boxx will automatically switch over to battery power and when the power comes back on it will automatically switch back. You can even charge your phone while the power is out.

  3. Great question, Lynn!  Given current restrictions on indoor events, the uncertainty around when these restrictions will loosen further, and the number of people who usually attend FragFest, we are leaning towards planning a slightly-delayed event in the Fall.  As you can imagine it takes months of planning, so we'd like to be a bit more sure that we'll actually be allowed to hold the meeting in person.  So keep an eye on this space!

  4. Gorgeous, Maureen!  When we're done with all of this social distancing I'll invite myself over to check it out now that the fish are all in (and you have a copperband!).

I'd post a pic of mine, but nobody wants to see a 6 gallon filled with brown crud (will it never go away??).

More tanks - come on folks!
