  1. After my tank stabilized and the hair algae was all but gone, i added approx. 7 Lbs. of live rock and 2 fish, a blue chromis and a six-line wrasse, which was followed a by a spike in hair algae, and some type of macro algae that occurs in small leaf-like shapes(could possibly be shredded lettuce algae). i purchased a cleanup crew from reefcleaners.org the crew included a small conch, which can be seen in the center of the final picture. so, in short... 2 fish, a bit of live rock, and a new algae issue
  2. Hey Mr. Lin! I was wondering when I'd hear from you. My maroon's eggs died 3 days after laid. they then laid another clutch 2 days later. I've never heard of spawning so rapidly. Eventually i do hope to raise the fry, but for now im just observing. Im also going to put a tile where theyve been spawning in the hopes theyll lay on it. unfortunately its not a very good spot IMO. low water flow compared to the rest of the tank.
  3. my fish have indeed spawned, but they have done so in a near impossible place to see, so no pics :(
  4. i have been observing my clowns behavior, and i believe they are about to spawn again. They spend much more tim together in a small area that the male clown constantly picks at. i also see what appears to be an ovipositor on the female. yay!
  5. I have been doing about a 1/4th water change every other day for a week now, and pinching out as much as i can. i seem to have got it under control, now its just a matter of time before my critters eat the remaining strands up.
  6. the black tubes on the left are an over-complicated overflow system, which will soon be replaced by the castle overflow you see on the right.
  7. My new tank seems to have encountered an infestation of green hair/grass algae... Its EVERYWHERE. After setting up the tank a few small kenya tree corals died, but i pulled them out of the tank. i have made 2 water changes in the past week, combining for 50% of the water. What can i do to protect my tank and get rid of the algae?
  8. this is true, giving away or selling mature clowns in large quantity may be hard.
  9. i was under the impression that the two common ways of getting the fry were pulling the eggs out the day the eyes become visible and syphoning the fry out of the mother tank when they hatch.
  10. My mated pair of maroon clowns were recently moved to a larger tank and have started breeding, they did this 3 days ago for the first time. the eggs unfortunately died, but i am given to understand that is normal? Anyway, im seriously considering trying to rear the fry when my clowns get it right. this is what the eggs looked like on hatch day
  11. Hi all! Ive decided to come back into the hobby, and not slowly at that. My dad got a new 120G tank and i got a 40B. Both are working but under the process of modification/perfection. That being said, this thread is for my 40B. It has acustom stand with a 20G sump and skimmer. 3 power heads, 1 small fish and some macro algae in the display for the time being. about a week after the tank's setup, algae runs rampant... advice? skipperawe

    40B build

my first build! a 40 breeder w/ a 20L sump and custom stand.
  13. Hi all, I have been relatively inactive over the last few weeks due to well, a lot of things, anyway, I have made the "guts", or structural, part of the stand, i will have to put a decorative ply finish and moulding on it.... I(my dad) have also drilled my 40b in two places, one hole in and one out. I recently bought and carved up some PVC for an overflow that will fit over the out-hole. I plan to paint this PVC black, and I have purchased "Crylon FUSION" (lol... Fusion...) paint. I have also purchased some clear cement-epoxy 100% water proof and fish safe Look to this thread as becoming much more active over the next few days... I will try to post up some pics soon of the stand/drilled tank. It also appears that the stand is extremely overbuilt... Might as well be a stump.. I can sit and pry all I want, I can't find a way to make it budge a MM in any direction... Thanks very much for your prior postings and following of my thread, I hope it starts up again and continues, as the topic certainly will COMMENT
  14. Just didn't want it on the floor, that's all... As per zygote2k.. My 2x4 legs are in the bottom, like you suggested, but not the top. (see the first pic. In my last post w/ pics.) Chad.. What CAD program is that?
  15. just handy to have a ledge.. Where else would the sump go?
  16. the ledge is there on purpose, lest ye think that i have not thought this out.. the ply will be screwed to the back in 9 places, this thing won't move... also, that bottom cuff you can see.. that is 2x4s screwed into the legs.. the top cuff, same thing. the top won't move, the bottom won't move, and the middle has a 1cm. ply screwed into it to prevent parrallelagramming.
  17. i've decided that my tank has too much compressional strength, but not enough lateral strength. AS such i have decided to scrap the middle joist & 2 legs. I will be using the extra wood for cross beams and 2 extra beams under the sump. New DESIGN: this is V5 for my custom stand.
