Thanks! After I sent the cap to the last meeting, the parent developed rot around the base (see "sarcophyton rot" thread). I have re-fragged it, but there's not much left. I have a few daughter colonies, if you're interested.
  2. Allright, I'll take a razor blade to it tomorrow. I'll be home too late tonight. Edit: The deed is done. I removed all the unhealthy tissue I could find, plus a good bit of healthy-looking stuff. We'll see.
  3. Literally cut the top off for the last WAMAS meeting. This is what it looked like before decapitation. The capitulum is about 5" across, and goes about 8" into the plane of the photo. Now it's just a stalk, with a new head developing. And some rot around the base.
  4. Well, I guess decapitating my big toadstool was a bit much. For about 3 weeks it has been going through the usual sequence of generating a new capitulum (sp?). However, now it is starting to degenerate at around the base, turning to a spicule-filled mush. The rest of the corals, in addition to some progeny right next to the parent colony, look great. Water parameters seem very good (pH 8.4, alk 3.5, Ca 400, NO3 2.5, in a 20 gallon that's been running as a reef for about 2 years). Anybody have any ideas about what to do? I have been scrubbing the dead stuff off, but should I do surgery? Should I just remove it, and be happy that I have the small colonies?

Oops, I add that. Alternate different kinds of frozen food, but I don't target feed. Plus phyto. Plus a lot of love ::

Thanks! They're low in the 20, under 130 watts of PC lighting. The only thing I add is kalk in the makeup water.

Here's Red, the male ocellaris, tending their most recent batch of eggs.

Here are a few more. This is a mushroom and progeny, started from a little one given to me by at the WAMAS frag workshop. I wish I remembered the name of the guy who gave them to me. Brought his nano from Texas.
  9. I've found them for hydroponics. Expensive (~$300) and only for 240V so far. Not sure why.
  10. My mail says Chevy Chase, but it's really Silver Spring. A few hundred yards from DC.
  11. Not there anymore! Dang. Why are they so hard to find?

Thanks! The clowns may have to develop a fondness for Xenia for a month or two :D

Uploading a pic of the 20 gallon. Most of the corals are free frags from Michael or others in the society, and everything is bigger than in the pic. I'll be decapitating the Sarcophyton before the January meeting if anyone's interested.
  14. Sure, it's waited this long. How early can you get up here, or how late?
  15. I am removing about half of the stuff from my little fuge this weekend. If you are willing to drive to SIlver Spring, you can have it.
  16. Another big thank you for all the effort put into organizing and executing the meeting. I learned a lot, and came out with a ton of corals. Who brought the green sinularia, by the way? Looking forward to putting frags back into circulation in the future.
  17. Hello, I was thinking about cutting some GSP that is overgrowing various rocks and shells. Would this be worth bringing to the workshop? Would anybody want it? It's an excellent bright green.
