  1. Looks like your skimmer is extracting some nasty stuff already too!
  2. It's a 120g (48x24x24) with a Current USA Outer Orbit HQI/T5HO 24-Hour Light System: : 48" 250W HQI 4x54W (1077) - B. I'm building a 52g sump/refugium that I hope to get done by this weekend. I have a Remora Pro HOB skimmer, three maxijet 1200's, and currently a FluVal 405 with Purigen and Matrix in it. I'm planning on moving the Purigen and Matrix to a drip box in the sump after I get it up and working. I know, I know, still needs LOTS of work but it's only a couple months old.
  3. That's my pink and yellow cucumber. I really like it. He moves around until he finds a flow he likes and then plants himself there. I wish he would move to one of the sides though. lol
  4. Ok, I finished the aquascaping today. It's not so easy to tell but it's in a horseshoe shape. It's amazing how many crevices the fish find to swim through. My purple tang, which is about 4", swam up to what looked like a solid rock part and then disappeared. He turned sideways and went through a small crack! Anyway, everyone, including me, made it through unscathed. I left foxface in the tank, along with everyone else, and he behaved beautifully! He stayed in one corner while I was doing the other side and then swam to the corner on the other side when I moved across. Left side: Right side: Center: Aquascaped!!!
  5. I'm WAY out in Round Hill, VA and I work in Reston. I have 4 acres of flat yard, mostly grass and I day dream of turning our above ground, 18,000 gallon swimming pool into an aquarium. Some lumber, Plexiglas panels for sides and roof, LOTS of salt (oops, gotta get the chlorine out first)....
  6. I'm in the planning stages for a saltwater mixing station and I'm planning on using a 44 gallon rubbermaid or some such trash can and I'm going to put a pump in it with a "Y" connector. The one end of the Y will just recirculate within the can and I'm going to hook the other end to a hose with a plastic nossle that I can drag to the aquarium to fill it back up after water changes. Anyone see an issue with this? The only thing I wonder about is the water left sitting in the house, it's not circulating with the water in the can unless I can make it a loop system... hmmmmmmmm
  7. WOW!!! I had NO idea there were other folks out here in my neck of the woods!!! I'm in Round Hill just past Hill High (great pies!)
  8. What a fantastic idea! Egg crate on the bottom of the tank for the rock to sit on and protect the bottom in the case of a rock slide or a dropped rock!
  9. Thanks all! "spray painting acrylic"??? Why are you spray painting acrylic? I'm building a refugium under my 120 and I'm building it IN the stand because each and every board is a support and about the only thing I could squeeze through the door was a 20H tank. Not big enough. I have it all glued together using Weld-on #4 (great stuff!) and it's 40x19x16 but I'll run it with about 35 gallons or so. The only thing left is to build the drip box and the braces for the lights and then plumb it all up. I also bought 150 pounds of LR from a guy tearing down his 200g and I have it in a 55 right now cycling which it appears to be done so I'm thinking late Saturday evening (when foxface is sound asleep) I'll be aquascaping in the 120. I wish I could make the meeting on Saturday but my wife already has a huge yard sale planned and I REALLY want to see a LOT of stuff leave my basement. I'm planning a 300+ for down here.
  10. Dentoid (as he is known at reef sanctuary) pointed me over here, so here I am! Yes, I've already submitted my $35 via PayPal for my family and I. I LOVE this hobby! I also love sleep too and I must admit, it's a tough choice, reading and learning more about saltwater aquariums, or sleeping.
