  1. My 60g cube is about 6 months old and green hair algae is trying to take over my tank. I only have 2 clowns and a midas blenny so its not overstocked. I feed somewhat sparingly though it might have been slightly overfed during my vacation about a month and a half ago. Here are the steps I've taken so far:

    1) upgraded skimmer (about a week ago)

    2) started a fuge with macroalgae (almost 3 weeks ago)

    3) started running about 8 tbsp of standard GFO from BRS (yesterday)

    4) kept up with weekly or bi-weekly water changes while trimming back GHA with scissors and trying to scoop it out

    5) cut back on feeding

    6) bought a standard hanna phosphate checker (reads 0 but I assume its all being consumed)

The only other thing I was considering was adding some clean-up crew to help or a fish that might eat some. Right now my clean up crew is about a dozen cerith snails and a few nassarius snails that don't seem to do anything. The macro and green hair algae both seem to be growing strong but I'll see if the GFO starts helping soon hopefully.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Phil

  2. Maybe the $1,500 covers the cost of Photoshop editing to enhance colors!!

This saturation goes to 11! I'm also curious what it would look like under normal lights without any post editing.

  3. clean the vent hole on the 90.

It was these! I thought I was hitting the inside of the pipe before with the skewer but it must have been caked up with some hard salt. All is good now. Thanks all!

  4. If you cleaned it "too well" you lost the slime coat. When that grows back a little things may quiet down.

Hm ok. It's not just a little louder though it's a loud suction noise. I'm thinking maybe the lid isn't fitting on perfectly letting it suck in a little air instead of creating a full siphon.

  5. I have a 1500gph overflow that was running silent for months. I used some black mesh netting (forget the name) to muffle the sound on the interior sides of the box and all was good. I pulled it all out to clean it and removed the lid inside the box. I've tried packing it tight/loose and every combination but can't get it to be quiet again after replacing it! Any suggestions?

  6. I know someone here runs a zeovit system. What are your thoughts? Pros, cons?

Also, do you use a zeovit specific reactor or just a general reactor? I was reading the below article, but wanted to get WAMAS thoughts.

Running NeoZeo in a phosban reactor?

I'm asking because I'm trying to decide which direction to take my tank. I've got a TLF 150 reactor right now that's got some nitrate and phosphate absorbing media in it. I've got a doser coming from ERC. I'm debating between dosing carbon, running biopellets, and switching over to Zeovit.

I have a zeovit reactor I'd be willing to sell cheap if you're interested. One of the seals needs to be re-done but I don't think it'd be that difficult. FYI, I didn't use it just got it as part of a full setup purchase.

  7. So here's an updated FTS I took the other day. I'm looking for advice on what fish to get next. Everything has done well with the exception of the first royal gramma who seemed ok for a day or 2 then disappeared never to be seen again. His replacement has faired much better.

    Currently I have:

    2 ocellaris clowns

    1 royal gramma

    Fish I'm considering:

Midas blenny (really want this one)

    goby/shrimp pair

    green chromis

    firefish

    wrasse (suggestions?)

  8. Thanks all. I'll go ahead and get Lightroom! (and a book on how to use it!)

Orion - I also ordered the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 lens, since I heard so many good things about it. (It sounds like many (most?) D3300 users primarily use that lens over the 18-55mm stock lens.

I bought the same camera Friday as well! I downloaded the 30 day Lightroom trial from Adobe.

  9. I'm a little confused by this thread. Are we talking about the drain lines or the return lines? It sounds like we are talking about the drains, right?

My mistake. Yes the drain lines. I guess it's the "return" to the sump.

  10. Did you install the glass-holes airline tubing that goes into the hole on the elbow of the overflow line? That allows air to enter lower in the stand pipe and break up the large air pockets that can cause flushing and vibration.

Hm those are what I was referring to when I said I cleaned the standpipes. Wrong terminology?

  11. I've had my tank setup for a few months and I was pretty happy with the noise level for the return line. I have a 60g cube with a glassholes 1500gph return. I had both return lines going about  3 or 4" below the waterline in the sump.

I was reading some random threads on another forum and it seemed like most people only had them 1/2" or so below the water line in the sump. I decided to cut mine to about 1 or 2" below the water line as well and now one line is louder than before.   I guess I couldn't just leave fine alone.

    A few questions:

    1) Is there any risk to having the return lines run significantly below the water line in the sump? If there isn't I might replace the flex hose I cut at the end with a longer piece again to reduce the noise.

    2) Also one return line shakes some (I'm guessing based on the angles of the return) is that normal?

    Thanks!

  12. I'm looking to place several acan lord frags together to start a small acan garden in my new tank. Right now the frags are just in the sand. My question is should I leave them all in the sand grouped together or actually mount them all on one rock?
