  2. Hi,

I live in SPringfield, Burke area. I am trying to find a replacement Bulkhead Fittings for the pipingfor my reef ready tank. The tank has two holes inside the overflow. The Bulkhead Fittings will look like this picture. I tried Home Depot, Wally Aquarium, Supper Pet, they all don't have it.

Can you guy tell me where I can buy this local?

  3. Tee,

I live in Burke. PM me and I will give you my address and we can talk basics of reef keeping- I have nursed many fish through ich. but bottom line is you have it in your system now and sounds like you are treating your system. Just do not use a copper based tretment or you system will almost never be able to support most inverts and eps. snails.

    Regards,

    Lee

    Lee,

My man, thanks a lot for the offer, but it's too late. My fish just passed away this morning :(.

I'll PM you, and hope to stop by your place to check out your tank.

  4. Before doing that, describe your system to us. If you have already introduced the fish into the tank, pulling it now may not be of any use as you've now introduced this into your system. Tell us what type of system you have and any other occupants, that will allow you to get better advice. For instance, if you have a fish only system and this is the only fish in there, I'd simply put the whole system into hyposalinity. If you have lots of other fish in the system and this one was so stressed out that ich was able to attack it, pulling it and putting it into a quarantine system may only add to the stress. Lots of great advice is waiting, but it's always best to look at the big picture first.

I have fish only system, 55gal. I have only 1 damsel, 1 Maroon Cloud, snail hermit crab and this Tang. My Nitrite, Nitrate and Amonia are normal. It will be hard to me to take him out, because he hide in the rock most the time. I already put two doses of medication in the tank.

Thanks a lot for your advice,

    Tee

  5. Hi all,

I just bought a nice Tang. He was healthy when I took him home. I aclimate him over 1.5 hour byt the dripping method. I turn off the light to reduce the tress. The LFS is only about 40 min away.

The first couple days he was fine, and swimming very active. Yesterday he has some white spot on hime. THe white spot grow a lot more today. I use the Ich medicine as instruction.

Are there anything else I can do? Should I quarantine him. Please help, and thank you very much in advance. I live in Burke, off of Braddock and Burk Lake. If there is some one close by, please stop by my house to give me some advice, I really appreciate that.

    So sad,

  6. hi all,

I am just wondering if there are any body live in Burke area, around Burke Lake and Braddock area. I am a fairly newbie to saltwater, and might need some help on my tank. If you live around this area, I would love to stop by to see your tank, and learn something from you.

    Thanks a lot,

    Tee

  7. Hi,

I just bought a Purple Tip Anemone. For some reason it hide in the gap between rock, and just lay in there. It has been two day now, I hope that it will move out so it will get some light and food. Is it normal for a new introduced Anemone to hide? Should I plug it out and move it out to the light?

    Thanks for the advice.

  8. Here is the tank size, tank weight, and with water. You have to add your sand, and rock on top of that to figure out the total weight of the whole setup. Hope this will help you out.

  9. Hi,

I currently have 1 Yellow Lemon Peel Angel. I want to buy another Coral Beauty Angel, or Flame Angel. Saltwaterfish.com say that they would fight each other to death. The guy at a LFS said that it will be ok.

Can you guy tell me if they will get along a 55gal tank?

    Thanks

    Tee

  10. Yeah, I check AUTOMATIC, but it still turn on anf off randomly. I think it is defected.

    Thanks for the input,

    Tee

    --------------------

i owned this timer before and it worked pretty well. on,offrandom, and automatic are the available options. im sure you have checked to make sure it is set to auto and not random. cycle through all four to make sure the other settings are working properly. if they are, and you have set it correctly the unit may just be defective. its hard to say with any certainty without being there to see it

  11. Hi,

I just bought this power strip timer. I follow the instruction, but it doesn't seem to work the way I want. Anybody use this timer before, and can give me some tip?

    http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod...p;N=2004+113351

After seting the time to turn on and off, I select "automatic". The yellow is for day time, and the blue is for night time. The power turn on randomly, instead of follow my set up (on at 10am and off at 9pm.

    Thanks a lot in advance,

  12. Yeah, if turn off the pump at feeding time, I have to remove the return off the tank. I don't have a shut off valse, so water will drain back to the sump through the return.

Why don't they make the pump with the flow rate adjustment?

    Sight,

    --------------------------------------

I think you'd be better off dispersing the flow, putting back preassure more than needed on the pump can cause premature wear. Also there's a great DIY for a feed hold timer in the DiY section, you should check it out. Just shut off your pumps at feeding time. Ok I give up I can't find the thread about feed timers... I have the pics though if you want them and no oen else can find the thread.

  13. Mr. Rascal, Tim, Dandy,

Thank you very much for your input. Rascal, I will try your suggestion and the feeding method.

    Tee

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ditto for what Tim and Dandy said. The pump will put out less gph depending on how much pressure it is pushing against. Putting a valve on it will increase the pressure and decrease the flow. With Magnetic driven pumps, it doesn't damage the pump or cause it to wear out any faster when you do this.

    But . . . .

IMO you should not decrease the flow. I can't see a Mag 5 pushing too much flow for a 50 Gallon. There are a lot of ways to spread it out if you have too much velocity in one spot, but none of that will help the problem you described with the flake food going over the overflow.

Try one of these methods instead:

    1) submerge the pinch of flake slightly before you let it go, holding it in a high flow area.

    2) put the flake in a cup of tank water 1st and then dump it in at once.

Both of these should get the flake into the water column, as opposed to floating at the surface. You should have enough flow to keep the food suspended and moving until you fish hunt it down.

  14. Tim.

Thank you so much for a quick response, I really appreciate that. But I still don't see how this will work.

1/ I thought if the Magdrive put out a certain gph flow rate. Reducing the flowrate restriction of the valse. The pump will still put out the same amount of GPH. This will put pressure on the pump and just make the stronger jet stream. This is just my dumb physic question.

2/. Using a T and a valse would make more sense.

Anybody else has any other input?

    Thanks,

    Tee

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Put a valve between the pump and the tank. (like a ball valve or a gate valve)

Then just adjust the valve until it's the amount of flow you want.

You can get a 1/2" ball valve at a hardware store for a couple bucks.

You can also use a tee and a valve to return some of the flow to your sump

  15. Hi,

I just bought this new pump. I don't see any adjustment in the pump that I can reduce the flow rate. I only have a 50gal tank. The flow is too strong for my tank. I fed my fish with flake food. The fish doesn't have a chance to eat the flake and it already drain to the overflow. How can I reduce the flow rate if the Magdrive 500 doesn't have a reducer control. Is it normal for a pump without the control.

    Please help me,

    Thanks a lot in advance,

  16. Hi all,

I have a 55 gal tank, this is mix fish and some coral. Please give me a time setup for the white, and blue light, and how long should it stay on.

RIght now I set both white and blue come up at 11am, and off at 9 pm. I have two plugs for my fixture, and one plug for the night light.

    Thanks a lot for helping,

    Tee

  17. No, this is in Alexandria.

Do you mean Superpetz in Annandale? They have a Nurse Shark in a display, they also have good prices on tanks but not really a great selection of corals and saltwater fish(tanks are dirty and have cyano/Aiptasia) but they have an amazing selection of freshwater fish.
